Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s next to be titled ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan'?

Yesterday we reported that filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar is all set to helm Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff in an out and out action film. The filmmaker has been conceptualizing a big-scale project for a while and wants to ensure the film is up to the mark for both Tiger and Akshay. The upcoming action-thriller will have power-packed action and some elements of humor too.

Now, the latest report by a tabloid suggests that the upcoming action-drama will be based on the storyline of the 1998 film Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan and is most likely to be titled the same. The film Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan originally featured Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda in double roles and also had Raveena Tandon as the female protagonist.

Apart from Ali Abbas Zafar stepping in as the director, the film will be produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Bhagnani under their banner, Pooja Films. The film is expected to go on floors sometime late next year, once Ali is done with the work on his current assignment with Shahid Kapoor.

Border’s legal case continues; Bharat Shah gives out a public notice against J P Dutta; case pending in Bombay High Court since 2012

The 1997 war film, Border, is considered to be one of the best films of Bollywood and also Indian cinema. It made its writer-director J P Dutta into a household name overnight. The film made his life and also gave a boost to the careers of its actors like Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, etc. However, for film financier Bharat Shah, the experience hasn’t been very positive. He had bankrolled the project and he claims that he is yet to get the profits that were promised to him. Moreover, his case has been going on in the Bombay High Court since 2012. However, the Honourable Court has failed to pass a timely order in this case.

In last week’s issue of Complete Cinema magazine, Bharat Shah and his wife, Bina Bharat Shah, trustees of Bharat Shah Family Trust, through their advocate, M/s Little & Co, gave a public notice about this ongoing case. As per this notice, J P Dutta had approached Bharat Shah on November 21, 1994, to finance Border.

As per a Deed of Settlement signed by both the parties, it was agreed that the sale of profits made by the film through theatrical or any other means would be shared in the ratio of 50:50 between J P Dutta and Bharat Shah. According to the notice, J P Dutta has breached the terms of the Deed of Settlement and has refused to share the profit sales with Bharat Shah. As a result, the film financier moved the Bombay High Court in 2012.

The public notice ends cautioning anyone who is planning to enter into any deal with J P Dutta regarding the exploitation of the rights of Border. As per the notice, one should conduct such dealings at his/her/their own risk since the matter is pending in the Bombay High Court.

When contacted by Bollywood Hungama, Bharat Shah said, “J P Dutta has not given us the all-India overflow. When the rights of the film were told to Sony, I was given my share. Also, I got the proceeds from the Bombay circuit. But later, I didn’t get anything.”

Bharat Shah then confirms that the case filed in 2012 is still going on, “India mein toh aisa hi chalta hai na. Taarekh pe taarekh aati rehti hai.” He continued, “And in India, civil cases take forever. Now, Covid-19 has further delayed matters. The court hasn’t given a stay and hence, those who bought the rights from J P Dutta are freely playing the film.”

When asked what made him give the notice, Bharat Shah replied, “We gave the notice because we heard that he’s going to sell the rights. So in order to warn them, we gave the notice, taaki kal koi yeh na bole ki humko inform nahi kiya tha.”

This controversy first came to light in 2012 when Bharat Shah sued J P Dutta. At that time, he had told the media that he had met and even called J P Dutta but the filmmaker turned a blind eye to his plea. Moreover, Bharat has also filed a case with the Association of Motion Pictures & TV Programme Producers (AMTPP) before moving the Court.

In 2016, when J P Dutta had announced that he’ll make sequels of Border, Bharat Shah had told Bollywood Hungama, “Border that released in 1997 went on to become a super hit and Dutta was supposed to share a part of the profits made from the film with us. However, he has refused to honour this and continues to turn a blind eye on the case."

He had also added, “We have the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the film (Border) and have filed a suit against Dutta in the Bombay High Court in respect of this.”

Alia Bhatt requests Sanjay Leela Bhansali to let her parents and Ranbir Kapoor watch Gangubai Kathiawadi; Bhansali says NO

If you know Sanjay Leela Bhansali even remotely, you would know he doesn’t show his films in advance to anybody. Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor’s parents did not see a single frame of Saawariya until the premiere night. Now, it’s Alia Bhatt’s turn to find out how rigid Bhansali can be when it comes to guarding his cinema against pre-release exposure.

Alia Bhatt requests Sanjay Leela Bhansali to let her parents and Ranbir Kapoor watch Gangubai Kathiawadi; Bhansali says NO

According to a source very close to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Alia has asked him more than once to let her parents, her sister, and boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor watch her in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The answer is a firm no. Informs a source, “Alia is very proud of what she has achieved in Gangubai Kathiawadi. She has moved away completely from her comfort zone to play a coldblooded mean murderous nasty woman. Bhansali’s team thinks she will win a National award for her performance. Alia is eager to show the film to her loved ones. But its looks like she will have to wait until the film’s release on February 18, 2022.”

Apparently, co-producer Jayantilal Gada has also been “advised” to not show Gangubai Kathiwadi to anyone without the consent of director Bhansali, who is also the co-producer.

Sex and the City star Chris Noth accused of sexual assault by singer Lisa Gentile

Another woman has come forward with allegations against Chris Noth, becoming the fifth person this month to accuse the Sex and the City and Law & Order star of sexual assault. In a press conference with her attorney Gloria Allred, singer-songwriter Lisa Gentile alleged she was “sexually victimized” and “sexually abused” by Noth in 2002.

Sex and the City star Chris Noth accused of sexual assault by singer Lisa Gentile

According to Variety, Gentile says she first met Noth in 1998 at the restaurant Da Marino in the theater district of New York City where he was a regular and she was friends with the owner. Eventually, she and Noth became acquaintances. One night in early 2002, Noth offered her a ride home from the restaurant, and she accepted, since the two were friendly. She says Noth asked if he could come up, and said he just wanted to see where she lived.

“He started kissing me almost right away. Then he leaned against the kitchen countertop and forcibly pulled me against him; he was slobbering all over me. I quickly became uncomfortable," she said. Furthermore, she alleged Noth then became “more aggressive” and began squeezing her breasts. “I kept pushing his hands down while he was pushing mine up. I was trying to get him to stop. He then forced my hands to pull up his shirt exposing his belly and then even harder pushed my hands down towards his penis. I finally managed to push him away and get out of his grasp and yelled, ‘No, I don’t want this', she said.

“He became extremely angry and started screaming calling me a ‘tease’ and a ‘bitch,'” Gentile alleged, before he stormed out of her apartment. The next morning, Gentile claims Noth called to warn her that he would blacklist her from the business if she ever spoke of what happened, and then hung up on her. “I was afraid to come forward because of Mr. Noth’s power and his threats to ruin my career,” Gentile said.

Gentile told reporters she was coming forward in hopes of changing legislature relating to sexual abuse. Because her alleged incident with Noth would have occurred nearly 20 years ago, the statute of limitations has passed. Allred said her client “believes it is time for the law to change and that is why she is speaking out today.”

Prior to Leslie Gentile’s press conference, two women anonymously told The Hollywood Reporter, in a report published last week, that Noth assaulted them on separate occasions, in 2004 and 2015. Shortly after, a third woman spoke to The Daily Beast, alleging sexual assault in 2010.

This week, an actor on Sex in the City, who, in her mid-20’s, worked as Kristin Davis’ stand-in for four seasons, penned an essay, calling Noth’s behavior on-set “disgusting” and “toxic.” She alleged Noth slid his hand down her back and “over my butt.”

The female stars of And Just Like That, Jessica Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Jessica Parker  addressed the allegations against Chris Noth in a joint statement this week. Noth has denied all previous accusations. In response to the women alleging rape and assault, Noth said the instances were consensual. In response to the woman who anonymously came forward to The Daily Beast, a representative for Noth said the story was “a complete fabrication” and that “Chris has no knowledge of who this individual is.”

In the wake of the allegations, Chris Noth was swiftly dropped by his talent agency, A3 Artists Agency, and was also fired from the CBS series The Equalizer.

EXCLUSIVE: Ishaan Khatter features in a cameo in Leonardo DiCaprio-Jennifer Lawrence starrer Don’t Look Up

There was a time when there was minimal cultural representation in Hollywood films and a handful of Indian actors were seen in their films. However, today, the times have changed. Not just actors of the Indian diaspora but also those of other communities have got an adequate number of films and even screen time. Speaking of Indian actors, Priyanka Chopra has stood out. She did the unthinkable as she got a lead show in her name, ‘Quantico’, and later appeared in several films, including the recently released The Matrix Resurrections. Late actor Irrfan Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Mallika Sherawat, Anil Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Kabir Bedi, etc have also been featured in American films and impressed audiences on a global scale.

EXCLUSIVE: Ishaan Khatter features in a cameo in Leonardo DiCaprio-Jennifer Lawrence starrer Don’t Look Up

Bollywood Hungama has now exclusively learnt that another actor has also joined this list. Ishaan Khatter features in the upcoming Netflix movie, Don’t Look Up, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “He is there for hardly around 10 seconds. Nevertheless, it is a fun cameo and would surely be noticed and liked by the audience. It also comes up all of a sudden and hence, audiences in India would be pleasantly surprised.”

Don’t Look Up releases on Netflix on Friday, December 24. It is the story of two low-level astronomers who discover that a Comet is fast approaching Earth with the potential to destroy life. How it leads to madness of the unexpected kind is what the film is all about. Besides Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, Don’t Look Up also stars Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Rob Morgan, Mark Rylance, Timothée Chalamet, and others. Another Indian-origin actor, Himesh Patel, is also a part of the film’s star cast.

Interestingly, the IMDb page of Don’t Look Up already features the name of Ishaan Khatter in the star cast. As per the website and the end credits, his character is named Raghav Manavalan.

This isn’t the first international project of Ishaan Khatter. He started his acting career with Beyond The Clouds (2018), directed by acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi. He also played an important part in Mira Nair’s international series, A Suitable Boy (2020). His chemistry with Tabu was much appreciated. Don’t Look Up, however, will be his first Hollywood film. Ishaan’s Hindi films include Dhadak (2018) and Khaali Peeli (2020). His upcoming films are Phone Bhoot, co-starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Katrina Kaif, and the war film, Pippa.
