(G)I-DLE rebrands as i-dle on 7th anniversary, drops ‘G’ to embrace new era

The K-POP super girl group formerly known as (G)I-DLE has announced a rebranding, changing their name to i-dle and removing the “G” that represented “Girl.” Through this change, they aim to redefine their identity beyond gender or symbolic labels. Additionally, by eliminating the parentheses, typically used to emphasize or separate elements, they signal a move toward limitless music and creative concepts as they embark on a new musical direction to celebrate their 7th anniversary.

After seven successful years in the industry, i-dle is transitioning from the name they have used since their debut on May 2, 2018, and is starting a new journey as i-dle. Members MIYEON, MINNIE, SOYEON, YUQI, and SHUHUA signify this name change “i-dle” via their social media platforms.

The group has unveiled a new logo and symbol featuring the lowercase letters 'i, d, l, e,' with circular dots that create a structural design of dots, lines, and planes. This design represents i-dle's unlimited potential and connectivity. The symbol, depicting five ‘i’s coming together to form a star, emphasizes how the five unique members have unified as one, embodying “i-dle.” Known for their active involvement in producing, writing, and composing their albums, they will continue to show the authenticity and distinctive color of i-dle.

Following the renewal of contracts for all members with CUBE Entertainment last December, this bold rebranding signifies more than just a name change; it marks the group’s aspirations for even greater ambitions. i-dle is prepared to greet their fans with enhanced teamwork and an expanded musical spectrum.

Since their debut with ‘LATATA,’ i-dle has garnered immense love with hits such as ‘Oh my god,’ ‘DUMDi DUMDi,’ ‘HWAA,’ ‘TOMBOY,’ ‘Nxde,’ and ‘Queencard.’ Last year, their 2nd Full Album [2] and its title track 'Super Lady' topped both domestic and international charts, while the B-side 'Fate' experienced a resurgence in popularity. Their 7th Mini Album [I SWAY] and summer title track 'Klaxon' further solidified their status as a global music powerhouse.

Additionally, they completed their third world tour, '2024 (G)I-DLE WORLD TOUR [iDOL],' connecting with fans across 14 cities worldwide. They also celebrated significant achievements, including the ‘Grand Record Award’ at the 2024 Korea Grand Music Awards (2024 KGMA) and ‘Record of the Year’ at the 2024 Melon Music Awards (2024 MMA).

EXCLUSIVE: Raid 2 distributors request cinemas to avoid Tuesday 99 offer for Ajay Devgn-starrer and to continue with popular pricing in the weekdays

The Ajay Devgn-starrer Raid 2 has taken a solid start, collecting Rs. 19.71 crores. The opening day number was a surprise as the industry expected the film to open under Rs. 15 crores. It held very well on the second day as well and it is now all set to collect nearly Rs. 70 crores in its four-day weekend. Realizing that the film will hold strongly even on the weekdays, the distributors have taken a significant step, Bollywood Hungama has learned.

Yesterday, the distributors of Raid 2 mailed exhibitors throughout the country with a request. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “The distributors first thanked their exhibition partners for their support in playing the film. They also informed that Raid 2 is doing exceedingly well in all the territories of the country. They then made two requests. Firstly, they asked them to not drop the prices to normal on weekdays. Raid 2 is playing with popular pricing on the weekdays and cinemas were asked to keep the same rates on the weekdays as well as the second weekend.”

The source continued, “The distributors further requested the cinemas to not run any special offers on the weekdays of the first week. This means that the newly launched Tuesday 99 offer should be exempted for Raid 2. Similarly, any such scheme like Women Wednesday or any special discount for school and college kids should also not be enforced for their film.”

The Tuesday offer was launched by PVR Inox from April 8. Called ‘Blockbuster Tuesdays’, it involves the properties of PVR and Inox selling tickets for normal seats for just Rs. 99 and Rs. 149. Since the multiplex chain owns a large chunk of properties, the other theatres and multiplex chains realized that they’d be at a disadvantage if they didn’t offer tickets for cheaper prices. Hence, almost all theatres also followed suit. This resulted in slightly higher collections on Tuesdays for films like Jaat and Kesari Chapter 2.

Police complaint filed against Sonu Nigam over alleged insensitive remarks towards Kannada community

Singer Sonu Nigam is facing trouble after a police complaint was lodged against him by a pro-Kannada organization. The complaint, filed by the President of the Bengaluru city district unit of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), accuses Nigam of making comments that hurt the sentiments of the Kannadiga community. The complaint alleges that Nigam compared a fan’s request for a Kannada song to a terrorist attack, potentially inciting hatred between linguistic communities.

The incident took place last month during a musical concert at East Point College of Engineering and Technology in Virgonagar, Bengaluru. A video from the event went viral, showing Nigam recounting how a fan had pressured him to sing in Kannada. In the clip, the singer appeared visibly upset by the interaction.

Sonu said, “Mujhe accha nahin laga ki wahan ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahin hogi us se pehle toh main Kannada gaane ga raha hoon.”

“Yahi kaaran hai, Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo kar rahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? Dekho toh kaun saamne khada hai,” he added.

Although the singer clarified during the concert that he holds deep respect for Kannadigas and the Kannada language, his remarks connecting the fan's behavior to the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack caused widespread outrage.

The complaint filed by KRV stated, “Sonu Nigam’s statements have caused severe distress to the Kannadiga community. By equating a simple cultural request to sing a Kannada song with a terrorist act, Shri Nigam has portrayed Kannadigas as intolerant or violent, which is contrary to their peace-loving and harmonious nature.”

The terror attack in Pahalgam, which took place on April 22, resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, mostly tourists. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and intensified concerns over suspected cross-border terrorism.

The issue has since escalated, with demands for a formal apology from the singer. However, no legal action has been taken so far, apart from the filing of the complaint.

Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, and other Pakistani actors’ Instagram accounts banned in India following Pahalgam terror attack

In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 lives, several prominent Pakistani artists have reportedly faced restrictions on their Instagram accounts in India. Celebrities including Hania Aamir, Sajal Ali, Mahira Khan, Sanam Saeed, Iqra Aziz, Ali Zafar, Sarah Khan, and Imran Abbas, known for their significant fan bases in India, have had their accounts either temporarily suspended or restricted.

The Pahalgam attack, where terrorists targeted tourists in a brutal shooting at Baisaran meadow, has heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The incident has prompted strong reactions from the Indian government, security agencies, and the public, with many calling for stringent measures against perceived cross-border influences.

The affected artists, many of whom have previously worked in or expressed interest in Indian entertainment, have a substantial following in India. Mahira Khan, known for her role opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees, has 10.9 million Instagram followers, while Hania Aamir, who was set to debut in the Punjabi film Sardaarji 3 with Diljit Dosanjh, boasts 13.1 million. Sajal Ali, Iqra Aziz, and Sarah Khan, with followings of 10.2 million, 10.9 million, and 11.7 million respectively, are celebrated for their roles in popular Pakistani dramas like Yakeen Ka Safar and Suno Chanda. Sanam Saeed, Ali Zafar, and Imran Abbas, with significant international appeal, have also been impacted, according to unverified reports on social media.

This development follows the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issuing a directive on April 26, 2025, calling for a complete ban on Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians in Indian film and entertainment projects. FWICE General Secretary Ashoke Dubey emphasized, “The nation comes first. If any of our members are found working with Pakistani artists, we will take action against them.” The organization has also urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to classify collaborations with Pakistani artists as treasonous, citing the Pahalgam attack as a catalyst for renewed restrictions.
