Kartik Aaryan starrer Dhamaka scheduled for release in October 2021 around the festive season of Navratri and Dusshera

A well placed industry source informed Bollywood Hungama, “The current scenario is such that more and more films are opting for an OTT release especially since theatre business has drastically declined due to Covid. Keeping this in mind, OTT platforms are now slotting releases in quick succession, and Kartik Aaryan’s Dhamaka is one of them.” Further talking about the release in October the source continues, “Yes, Netflix has locked the release of Dhamaka in October this year. The reason being, the festive season of Navratri and Dusshera. Being the usual release pattern for films to release on festive occasions, the digital giant is looking to maximise its viewership with a similar method.”

While an official announcement of the release date is awaited, Dhamaka which is directed by Ram Madhvani is said to be a remake of The Terror Live, a 2013 South Korean film. The story of the film revolves around a news anchor played by Kartik Aaryan who tries to use a terrorist attack in order to boost his career.

SCOOP: Bellbottom's new release date likely to be announced this week; may release on 27 August

With cinemas opening in Delhi, there’s has been a lot of excitement among the trade and exhibitors. The release of Hindi films will take time but Hollywood films will try their luck and hopefully get audiences to cinemas. Bollywood Hungama was the first one to tell you that Warner Bros has decided to release Mortal Komat on July 30 followed by The Suicide Squad on August 5. The Independence Day weekend, meanwhile, would see the release of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

SCOOP Bellbottom's new release date likely to be announced this week; may release on 27 August

Meanwhile, Universal Pictures on July 28 made a grand announcement of the release dates of many as 7 films, including the most awaited Hollywood biggie of the season, Fast & Furious 9. Earlier, the studio had decided to release the actioner on August 5 in India. But since the reopening of cinemas in various states took time, the film has been pushed by two weeks and it’ll now release on Thursday, August 19..

Meanwhile, a discussion has been going in the trade and exhibition circles that Bellbottom, starring Akshay Kumar, has been blocked for August 27. A source informed Bollywood Hungama, “The exhibitors have been given dates of the films that will release or are expected to release in August. Bellbottom also features in this list and its date has been given as August 27. Of course, it’s a tentative date and it all depends on when the key state of Maharashtra allows the theatres to restart.”

On July 29, Rajesh Tope, the Maharashtra health minister, announced that cinema halls would be permitted to open in 25 districts with less number of cases, including Mumbai. However, the terms and conditions for the reopening of cinemas and when the theatres can resume operations would be announced later.

The source also added, “Unlike Hollywood films, the Bellbottom makers want the film to have a release in most markets, especially Maharashtra, which contributes to a major chunk of the business.” He also revealed that the producers of this action thriller are looking at making an announcement this week.

Besides Akshay Kumar, Bellbottom also stars Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta and Adil Hussain. Directed by Ranjit M Tewari, it was one of the first Bollywood films to be shot amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

A trade expert said, “If Bellbottom releases on August 27, it’ll miss out on the Independence Day holiday (Sunday, August 15) and also the Raksha Bandhan holiday (Sunday, August 22). But that would be fine as viewers would throng to cinemas whenever it releases as it’s a big film starring a superstar like Akshay Kumar. Moreover, the date is 27 and 2+7 equals 9, which is Akshay’s lucky number. Hence, it’s very much possible that Bellbottom would arrive in cinemas on the said date.”

The trade expert also remarked, “If Fast & Furious 9 is releasing on August 19, then chances are that Bellbottom would not release on the same day. A clash of 2 big films is not being encouraged right now.” However, an industry insider said, “Fast & Furious 9 won’t release in non-2k cinemas. Bellbottom can still release on August 19. Let’s wait for the official announcement.”

EXCLUSIVE: Salman Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala block Diwali 2022 for Farhad Samji's comedy Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali

We were the first to inform our readers that Salman Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala's next collaboration which was initially titled Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali has undergone a title change and is now addressed as Bhaijaan. Salman will play the titular role in the film, that of an unmarried brother to three. And now, we have another scoop on this Farhad Samji directed comedy drama.

Salman Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala block Diwali 2022 for Farhad Samji's comedy Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali

"Salman Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala recently met to discuss the shooting schedule and release date of Bhaijaan and they have unanimously decided on making an attempt to bring it during the Diwali 2022 weekend. The duo is of the opinion that the script is loaded with comedy and family based emotions, making it an ideal watch for the audience during the festive season of Diwali," a trade source informed Bollywood Hungama.

The shooting for Bhaijaan will begin in the month of November in India, once Salman wraps up shooting for on-going action thriller, Tiger 3. With Farhad having wrapped up with Bachchan Pandey, he will now jump onto the pre-production of Bhaijaan. "It's an ambitious film for the team and the audience will be surprised with the larger context of the subject that the makers are touching upon," the source further said.

This would be Salman's first Diwali release after Sooraj Barjatya's 2014 family drama, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. "The shooting and release date is subject to Covid scenario," the source added. Bhaijaan stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead and marks her first collaboration with Salman Khan.

Naseeruddin Shah sets record straight about his fallout with the late Dilip Kumar

Naseeruddin Shah is always known to call a spade a spade. All hell broke loose when in a self-penned tribute to the great Dilip Kumar in the Indian Express, Naseer said, “It’s incomprehensible why an actor of such immaculate craft, one whose very presence elevated any film he was in, one who just had to nod his head to set any project he fancied into motion, one justly acclaimed as the finest in the country, one financially secure for several generations, chose to play safe the way he did…. It is also no mystery why, instead of using his clout to encourage filmmakers deviating from the norm, to scripts depicting the truth of their times, and thus to films which may have altered his understanding of the actor’s contribution, he opted instead for a series of indulgent, clunky embarrassments some of which did set the box-office on fire, but also compelled many ardent admirers, myself very much included, to perceive him anew… If being a star does curious things to people, being resident legend does even curiouser things I suppose.”

Naseeruddin Shah sets record straight about his fallout with the late Dilip Kumar

The country known to worship the dead couldn’t take the criticism of the acting God in their stride. Now clearing the air once and for all Naseer says, “Those who decided to take offence at what I said about Dilip Saab should have read the entire article and they would have realised that my praise, though conditional, for his acting chops was nothing less than glowing. I practically ran out of superlatives when describing his acting abilities.”

So what exactly was Naseer’s complaint? “My 'complaint' had nothing to do with that at all. However the reaction of people who choose to see meanings where there are none doesn't bother me.”

Reacting to my query if he stands by what he said Naseer replies, “I said what I had to say, and if I hadn't meant it I wouldn't have said it.”

It was widely rumoured that there were problems between Dilip Saab and Naseer Saab during the shooting of Subhash Ghai’s Karma, the only films in which the two brilliant actors came together?

Replies Naseer, “The supposed problems we had during the making of a film which I'd rather forget, was all the invention of the media and some vested interests who made our working together sound like some sort of acting duel that was to take place, when considering the nature of our respective roles, I actually didn't stand a chance. All this fanned the non-existent flames when the fact was we hardly even met including in the scenes we had together.”

For Naseer acting is never about one-upmanship. “I don’t consider acting to be a contest or a game of one-upmanship and I was far from happy with all the talk of Dilip Kumar Versus Me. I have never denied that it was my childhood dream to act with and not opposite, him.”

STX begins complex investigation into alleged irregularities by Eros; certain employees sent on leave, email servers changed

Last month, Bollywood Hungama published a report that all is not well with Eros International, one of the biggest production houses in the country, known for backing and producing films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Bajirao Mastani (2015), Om Shanti Om (2007), etc. The employees have faced delayed payment and in some cases, even non-payment of dues. The situation became so alarming that Shikha Kapur, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Eros, even resigned.

STX begins complex investigation into alleged irregularities by Eros; certain employees sent on leave, email servers changed

Now, we have learned that STX, the international company that got into a tie-up with Eros in early 2020, has begun an investigation on Eros International. A source told us, “The STX team is investigating transactions regarding shell companies of Eros. They are suspicious that Eros is diverting money to somewhere else.”

The source further adds, “At present, many senior employees in the finance and commercial team are being interrogated by the legal team of STX. It’s going on for days and the investigation lasts for hours. In fact, after the investigation began, many employees, who could be questioned, were sent on leave of absence. The management didn’t want them present at the times of questioning.”

The source continues, “Eros has even destroyed its mail servers and laptops of employees have been seized to delete mails. The servers were quickly changed in 24 hours. The audit is underway. STX has stopped all cash flow till they find out the truth. This is the reason why employees are not paid salaries for not just May and June but also July.”

Email servers changed, WhatsApp groups deleted
Another source close to the company confirmed about these shocking developments, “It was somewhere around in April or May that the employees were told that the management was migrating the email server. Their laptops were taken and when they were returned, all their old emails were gone. They were told that they would be able to access it through an archived folder but it never happened.” The source continues, “The phone numbers and email addresses of certain employees were changed. WhatsApp groups, created for work purposes, were deleted. The employees could sense that something was wrong.”

The investigation made it clear that all is not well. “Many people from finance and commercials were interrogated. Sadly, many of them have nothing to do with this. They don’t even know much but they are bearing the brunt of the daily questioning. It has affected them mentally,” revealed the source.

That’s not all. The insider claims, “There have also been instances of delayed tax payments from their side to the government.”

The curious case of Mzaalo
The insider then reveals, “Some of their plans have been bewildering. For instance, they have launched an app called Mzaalo. The films and shows that are available on Eros Now app are also available on Mzaalo, that too, for free. This exercise of having an SVOD (subscription video-on-demand) platform first and then releasing the content of this platform on an AVOD (advertising video-on-demand) platform like Mzaalo as well made a lot of heads turn. It didn’t make sense.”

The source mentioned above also spoke about Mzaalo, “With regards to the Mzaalo app, the STX was not even aware of its existence. It’s only when STX raised an issue that Eros declared publicly about the association of Eros with Mzaalo.”

In June this year, a press release announced that Eros Now is getting into a ‘partnership’ with Mzaalo. Interestingly, Mzaalo is owned by Xfinite Global Plc, whose CEO is Swaneet Singh. He is the son-in-law of Kishore Lulla, owner of Eros. Kishore's daughter and Swaneet's wife, Rishika Lulla Singh is also Eros's co-president

Non-payment of dues
A common agony of a lot of people, whom we reached out to, was that Eros didn’t pay them or that they had to run behind the company to get their dues cleared. An entrepreneur told us, “We worked with Eros a few years back and did promotions for them as Facebook and Google had blacklisted them. We got our money only a year later, though they didn’t pay us fully. We had to threaten them with legal action. We also sent some of our team members to their office. The employees out there had to bear the brunt though they had nothing to do with the whole fiasco. Later, I found out that no agency wants to work with Eros due to their unprofessional behaviour.”

The insider then said, “Lot of influencers who worked with the company were not paid. So it was not just the vendors and employees that were left asking for their dues.”

Manav Sethi who had worked with Eros as Chief Marketing Officer from January 2019 to June 2020 said, “I had to send a legal notice to Eros International for my FNF (full and final) payment after I resigned as per due process. In an article in a tabloid, Mr Pradeep Dwivedi, the CEO, purported that I had agreed to let go of bonus and ESOP which is not true. Let them share that agreement openly where I have agreed to forego my bonus and ESOP and I will withdraw all claims.” He also added, “The year-end bonus and the stock options that were committed to me in my offer letter have not been paid yet.”

Even last month, when Bollywood Hungama had reached out to Eros regarding reports of non-payment of salaries, the company’s spokesperson had said, “The pandemic and the resultant business scenario have forced us to reinvent and restructure our business model across verticals. As a consequence, certain employees have been let go of under a corporate restructuring and cost optimization exercise. While efforts were made to cross leverage as much expertise as possible across the organization and ensure that the restructuring process impacts minimal employee count, unfortunately, a few roles had to be dissolved. Such an exercise has been a difficult one for both the company and its employees. This is to ensure the sustainability of the business in the post-pandemic world.”

We reached out to the spokesperson of Eros this time as well to comment on the issues published in this article and the response cited was as follows, “STX is not conducting an audit. No employees have been sent on leave, the only fact that is true is that Eros International had an organization trim on the studio side due to COVID and change in strategy. This information was also disclosed transparently in the public domain. No email server have been changed or emails have been deleted. The Eros - Mzaalo business relationship was also disclosed pre-merger and the public announcement to this effect was also made on 2nd June 2021. Hence STX was never not informed about the association and its details.”

South Korean actor Ji Chang Wook tests positive for COVID-19 amid the filming of The Sound Of Magic

Popular South Korean actor Ji Chang Wook has tested positive for COVID-19. In the recent update, he is in self-quarantine and following necessary protocols.

South Korean actor Ji Chang Wook tests positive for COVID-19 amid the filming of The Sound Of Magic

According to Korean news outlet SpoTV News, his agency Glorious Entertainment said in a statement, "Ji Chang-wook has tested positive for COVID-19. He is under quarantine and treatment according to the guidelines of the quarantine authorities."

According to JTBC News, the actor is currently filming Netflix's The Sound Of Magic and  the show's production staff and cast members underwent COVID-19 testing and have temporarily halted the filming.

The Sound of Magic is based on the popular webtoon Annarasumanara. With Kim Sung-youn directing, The Sound of Magic is a touching drama about Yoon Ah-yi, a girl who had to grow up too fast, and Rieul, a mysterious magician who — although grown-up — wants to remain as a kid.

The lead cast for the series has been confirmed with a star-studded lineup headed by Ji Chang-wook, Choi Sung-eun and Hwang In-youp. Ji Chang-wook plays Rieul, a mysterious magician who lives in an abandoned amusement park. Ji recently starred in Lovestruck in the City. He artfully balances the childlike innocence and aloof charisma that defines his character Rieul.

Hwang In-youp, a powerful rising star, will play Yoon Ah-yi’s classmate Na Il-deung. His character is a brilliant student but lacks the ability to interact well with others. Na Il-deung’s life slowly transforms as Yoon Ah-yi and Rieul introduce him to the enchanting world of magic. Choi Sung-eun is set to play the role of Yoon Ah-yi, working closely with Ji Chang-wook.

Like every other production, Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli's war-drama Pippa was supposed to begin in March of this year. But, the cast and producers agreed upon not shooting during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The schedule got delayed.

Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli's war-drama Pippa to begin shoot in September

Now, it seems like the actors will finally begin the shoot in September. According to a daily, the actors begin reading sessions by mid-August. The cast has to familiarise themselves with the story and also prep from August onwards for war and combat action scenes.

Based on the book "The Burning Chaffees" by war veteran Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, this collaboration has Airlift director Raja Krishna Menon at its helm. Pippa is set to have Ishaan in the role of Brigadier Mehta, a veteran of the 45th Cavalry Tank Squadron who fought on the eastern front during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971.

The film titled Pippa is written by Ravinder Randhawa, Tanmay Mohan, and Raja Krishna Menon. In their Pippa, Balram and his tank squadron fought the riveting 48-hour-long Battle of Garibpur that laid the foundation for and influenced the outcome of the impending war in India’s favour. The film also portrays the coming-of-age of a young Mehta as well as of our nation, as both stepped up to prove themselves in a war for the liberation of another country. The battle paved the path for India’s triumph as Captain Mehta rose to the occasion and led his troops to victory.

In addition to the war-front bravado, thrilling military camaraderie, and majestic action sequences that will surely wow audiences, this story also explores the poignancy of a family displaced during wartime amidst the backdrop of the heart-wrenching refugee crisis that plagues our world even today. The key roles of Mehta’s elder brother and younger sister, who also bravely conducted themselves during the war, are in the process of being cast.

Pippa, produced by RSVP and Roy Kapur Films, will hit theatres late next year.

The Mumbai Police officials conducted a raid at Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra's Juhu bungalow on Friday. Shilpa also recorded her statement and was questioned for almost 6 hours. Raj Kundra, husband of Shilpa Shetty, was arrested on July 19 in a pornography-related case. He is currently in police custody till July 27.

Raj Kundra Pornography case: Shilpa Shetty says erotica is not porn in police statement; claims her husband is innocent

During her questioning, Shilpa reportedly said that she was unaware of the exact nature of Hotshots- the mobile app via which Raj Kundra is accused of streaming pornographic content. She further said that it was UK-based Kernin Productions's head Pradeep Bakshi, and brother-in-law of Kundra who was involved with the app. She also claimed that the films available on Kundra's app Hotshot are not 'pornography but erotica' while citing more obscene examples from other OTT platforms. She also said that her husband is not involved in producing pornographic content. The Crime Branch also seized electronic gadgets during the house raid.

According to reports, the reason Shilpa has come under the scanner is because she resigned from the director's position at Viaan Industries. The operations of the porn production and distribution were allegedly handled by Raj Kundra-owned Viaan Industries. The officials are investigating whether Shilpa benefitted in any way from the money generated at the company.

SCOOP: Mahesh Babu rejects Hrithik Roshan's Ramayana; gives priority to SS Rajamouli

Just a month back, the news circulated that Madhu Mantena is making an attempt to pull off a casting coup by bringing Mahesh Babu, Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone together in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana 3D. However, it has now come to our notice that the superstar has rejected Madhu's offer of being a part of this epic.

Mahesh Babu rejects Hrithik Roshan's Ramayana; gives priority to SS Rajamouli

"Madhu and Nitesh are looking to shoot for Ramayana from mid-2022 and the dates coincide with the biggest filmmaker of India, SS Rajamouli's next. It was an obvious choice for Mahesh to choose Rajamouli over the rendition of Ramayana," told a source to Bollywood Hungama

While Hrithik plays Raavan, Deepika will be seen as Sita in this epic. While the makers were sure of getting a yes from Mahesh Babu, however, with him refusing the offer, they are now on the hunt for another actor to play the Lord Ram on screen. Before moving onto Ramayana, Hrithik will complete shooting for Vikram Vedha, Night Manager (his digital debut) and Fighter. Deepika too has her kitty full with films like Pathan, Intern and Fighter among others.

Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli's next after RRR is an African jungle adventure with Mahesh Babu, which will be written by KV Vijayendra Prasad. The film goes on floors sometime next year.
