Pathaan: Siddharth Anand says Shah Rukh Khan has been ‘soft target’ in recent years; breaks silence on boycott calls: ‘Audiences came out in large numbers and supported it’

Riding high on the success of Pathaan, filmmaker Siddharth Anand has now given two back-to-back blockbusters. After War and Pathaan, he has become the undisputed number-one director of his genre in India. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone & John Abraham, the film has already collected Rs. 591 crores gross worldwide! But, the film did face its fair share of controversies especially when boycott calls were made after ‘Besharam Rang’ was released. Several outfits had raised objections to Deepika Padukone wearing a saffron bikini. Speaking to Deadline, when asked if he was worried about the negativity around Pathaan ahead of its release, he said, “All I know is they tried to boycott Pathaan and audiences came out in large numbers and supported it. I think if you’re going to boycott something or raise your voice against it, there has to be some merit in that. It has to be substantiated with some facts and some reality. What they were trying to do with Pathaan was just ridiculous and the audience has given its verdict. There’s also been a huge amount of support for Shah Rukh who has been a soft target in recent years. That’s why the film has done such big numbers. There’s been such an outpouring of love – they came in wanting to like the film and not to judge it.” Talking about the recent surge of South movies doing really well in the North market and how Pathaan has broken several records, he added, “We’ve captured all four quadrants, families are going in large numbers, men, women, youth audience, across both multiplexes and single screens. It’s also firing in all territories. Earlier it was a little slow in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh because people were afraid of protests. That was on the first day. But by evening, the numbers started increasing. The South is also coming in with big numbers, not just the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions, but they’re also coming for the original Hindi version because they want to hear Shah Rukh speaking in his original voice.” On the work front, Siddharth Anand is next directing Fighter headlined by Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. Samantha Ruth Prabhu joins Varun Dhawan starrer Citadel India, says she is 'thrilled to be a part of this brilliant universe'

Prime Video on Wednesday confirmed that Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be starring alongside Varun Dhawan in the Indian installment of the Citadel universe, the global-event series from Prime Video and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO. The untitled Citadel series based out of India is being helmed by renowned creator duo Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK), who are the showrunners and directors. The local installment is written by Sita R. Menon, along with Raj & DK. The streaming service also confirmed that the production is currently underway in Mumbai. After this, the unit will head to North India and then onwards to international locales like Serbia and South Africa. As previously announced, Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas will star in the first-to-launch series within the Citadel universe, which comes from the Russo Brothers’ AGBO along with David Weil and is set to premiere in 2023. Alongside Madden and Chopra Jonas, the first-to-launch Citadel series will also feature Stanley Tucci. Additional local-language Citadel productions are also in the works, including an Italian Original series starring Matilda De Angelis. “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Samantha once again. She made her streaming debut with The Family Man Season Two, on Prime Video, and is one of the most talented artistes in the industry today. Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor starrer Bawaal postponed due to VFX and technical requirements

Varun Dhawan fans have been eagerly waiting to see the actor on the big screen and Bawaal added to anticipation as it was bringing together VD and Janhvi Kapoor for the first time on the big screen. However, it seems that they have to wait a little more since the latest update on that front is that the film is witnessing a few delays due to technical issues. Sources close to the film claimed that the Sajid Nadiadwala production may be pushed further because Nitesh Tiwari and the team of the film are keen on using a special kind of technology for the film. Sources claim that the filmmakers are quite ambitious about the onscreen presentation of Bawaal and hence are even shooting it using a special technology in Poland. Confirming the same, the director Nitesh Tiwari explained that in order to maintain the quality of the film, they decided to postpone its release, instead of compromising on the effects. He said, “The visual finesse we want to achieve on these sequences will need more time than we expected. We don’t want to cut short at anything because our purpose is to bring nothing but the best version of our vision to our viewers.” Readers would be aware that Bawaal was extensively shot in Poland wherein Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor were constantly seen sharing photos and videos on social media, giving a glimpse of the picturesque locations they shot the film in. Netflix to celebrate Yash Chopra’s legacy through the docu-series The Romantics

Streaming giant Netflix is all set to celebrate the late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra and his banner Yash Raj Films through the docu-series titled The Romantics. Directed by Smriti Mundhra, the show will be released on the Valentine’s Day on February 14 and it will be Netflix’s tribute to Chopra, who was known as ‘Father of Romance.’ Throwing more light on The Romantics, an official statement from the makers said, “The star-studded, four-part docu-series will feature 35 leading voices of the Hindi film industry and dive into the history of Bollywood through the lens of YRF’s impact in making Bollywood a household name globally. Suresh Triveni to direct two projects for his banner Opening Image following Jalsa

Filmmaker Suresh Triveni’s last movie Jalsa, which released last March on Amazon Prime Video, received appreciation for its content as well as the performances from Vidya Balan, Shefali Shah and veteran actress Rohini Hattangadi. Following the film, Triveni announced his own creative studio and production house named Opening Image, in partnership with Vikram Malhotra-led Abundantia Entertainment. Triveni is now ready to roll his next two directorial ventures under his banner. Sharing more about his plan, an official statement from his publicist said, “While one film is an out-and-out action drama, the other one is a dramedy with an element of thrill that explores questions of identity in today’s world. Kareena Kapoor Khan wraps Hansal Mehta’s detective thriller & Sujoy Ghosh’s The Devotion of Suspect X: ‘Both these films are shockingly different’

Back in March 2022, Netflix announced that Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma were coming together to star in Sujoy Ghosh's untitled film. The film marks the digital debut of Kareena. It is a screen adaptation of one of Keigo Higashino’s most acclaimed novel, “The Devotion of Suspect X”. Now, Kareena has wrapped the project. Speaking to Variety, Kareena Kapoor described the Sujoy Ghosh project as “dramatically different”. “For me, it’s very different because obviously you’re used to seeing me in all the mainstream movies, which has the song, the dance, the gloss, the glamour. Both these films (Sujoy Ghosh & Hansal Mehta’s next projects) are shockingly different,” Kareena said. The film follows the story of a “single mother and her daughter who commit a crime and a neighbor who helps them cover it up amidst a police investigation.” The film is produced by 12th Street Entertainment, Northern Lights Films in association with Boundscript and Kross Pictures and marks Kareena Kapoor Khan’s streaming debut. Sujoy Ghosh will be producing the film along with Jay Shewakramani, Akshai Puri, and Thomas Kim. On another note, the actress has also wrapped the Hansal Mehta directorial, which is reportedly titled The Buckingham Murders. The film marks her debut as a producer along with Ekta Kapoor. “I love ‘Mare of Easttown’ and when Hansal came to me, I said this is something that I’ve really been dying to do. So we’ve molded a little bit on those lines, she plays a detective cop in that,” Kareena told Variety. “It’s the first time that I’ve dabbled in that.” The actress also said that the film is 80 percent shot in English and 20 percent in Hindi. It was extensively filmed in the UK. “I speak fluently in Hindi and I think also in Hindi because that’s been what I’ve been doing all my life,” she added. “When you’re thinking in Hindi, but speaking in English, it was actually a difficult task to do because it was the reverse situation for the first time.” “I never really thought that I would be a producer. But when I heard this subject, and the fact that it’s very different to a regular Hindi movie… it’s a very different, take to things. So I thought that will be really nice and different,” Kapoor Khan said. “And when Ektaa and Hansal told me that, ‘since you love the script so much, why don’t you come on board as a creative producer as well, and take some calls as to what you think also and give your name to it’ – after much thought, I thought that if I love something so much, and this is a character that I wanted to play, I think it’s fun to do it. It’s the first time. I don’t know if I’ll repeatedly do it. But let’s see.” With this film, Kareena Kapoor Khan turns producer. The project will be co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Hansal Mehta. Ekta and Kareena Kapoor Khan previously teamed up on the comedy, Veeri Di Wedding in 2018. Anurag Kashyap expresses regret for turning down Sushant Singh Rajput's invitation to collaborate

Anurag Kashyap recently made headlines where he expressed guilt over his public statement about his Dev.D actor Abhay Deol and privately about the late Sushant Singh Rajput. In an interview, Anurag accused Abhay of being difficult to work with, claiming that the actor insisted on staying in a five-star hotel separate from the rest of the cast and crew. Abhay had denied this.  Anurag had revealed shortly after Sushant's death that he had refused to speak with him about a project because he was resentful of being ghosted by the actor in the past. The filmmaker discussed his differences with Abhay and Sushant in a new interview with Showsha. He said, “It’s taken me a year-and-a-half of sickness to realise a lot of things. I was so reactive; I would say things. I would say things out of anger, out of reaction, to things I felt perturbed by. It took me time to realise that I’m shouting, I’m shouting in a room full of people shouting. Nobody’s listening to each other, not just to me. That’s what social media has become. And I stepped back. I said, ‘Why am I reacting to this? What is bothering me?'”  He further added, “A lot has changed, but I know I have no filter. But it’s also made me realise I don’t need to say everything… For example, that whole spat between me and Abhay. Somebody was doing an article about why a very good actor like Abhay is no longer in the movies, and I spoke about my experiences, something that happened 13 years ago. I didn’t need to say it publicly. And the day the unfortunate incident happened of SSR, I felt so bad. Three weeks prior to that somebody was trying to reach out because he wanted to talk, and I was like, ‘No, he ghosted me, I don’t want to talk’. You get pangs of guilt. So, I tried to reach out to Abhay and I apologised to him, because somebody had told me that he was upset about me speaking publicly about him.”  Anurag stated that he told Abhay that it was fine to yell at him and then apologised repeatedly for what he said. However, Abhay appeared to be upset about what Anurag had said about him as recently as last month. Abhay called the filmmaker a "liar" and a "toxic" person in an interview with mid-day. Anurag acknowledged that they had both changed and expressed regret for what he had said.  Anurag had stated in a 2020 interview with NDTV that he was disappointed that Sushant had backed out of projects with him in favour of more high-profile jobs. He stated, “YRF called him and said, ‘We’ll give you a deal. You do Shuddh Desi Romance.’ Sushant, who used to sit in my office with Mukesh and all of us used to sit together, signed up with YRF and dropped Hasee Toh Phasee, a film of an outsider because usko validation YRF ka chahiye tha (he wanted validation from YRF). It’s with every actor, so I am not holding any grudges… Years later, in 2016, before the release of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Mukesh went to Sushant and said, ‘Anurag has written a script looking for an actor who can play someone based out of Uttar Pradesh.’ Dhoni released, became a success and he never called me back. Pathaan’s first-ever media event expected to take place on Monday, January 30; will be attended by Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham?

Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, was released on January 25, 2023 and ever since, it is rewriting history at the box office. Thus, we will start all our promotional activities only post the release of the film.” Bollywood Hungama has now learnt that the much-awaited and impending event of Pathaan is expected to finally take place tomorrow. A source spilled the beans, “It is said that the event is expected take place on Monday, January 30, in Mumbai. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and Siddharth Anand will also make their presence felt. It’ll be one of the biggest events of the year. The media has been waiting to see Shah Rukh and to interact with him. As a result, a large turnout of the media is expected. The event will also get a huge viewership from fans and netizens as even they are curious to see what their favourite superstar has to say in his trademark witty style, especially after the way the film has performed at the box office.” Meanwhile, Pathaan has collected around Rs. 51 to 53 crores on Saturday at the domestic box office, as per early estimates. On Sunday, it is expected to earn even more, with the five-day collections closing at around Rs. 275 crores. Rakhi Sawant pens down a heartfelt message after the death of her mother Jaya Sawant; celebs express condolences

After a protracted struggle with a brain tumour and cancer, Rakhi Sawant's mother Jaya Sawant passed away on Saturday. Rakhi’s mother had reportedly been in critical condition while being treated in a Mumbai hospital for several days. The actress posted the heart-breaking news along with a moving letter for her mother on social media.   Rakhi had posted updates on her mother's health as well as images and videos of her mother taken when she was in the hospital. In numerous paparazzi recordings, the actor had also pleaded with viewers to pray for her mother's quick recovery. Rakhi’s mother had receiving medical care in a hospital in Mumbai. She shared a post on Instagram on Saturday confirming that her mother Jaya Sawant had passed away following treatment for a brain tumour and cancer. According to a statement Rakhi posted on her Instagram story, the funeral will be held on Sunday.  Rakhi posted a touching video on Instagram with her mother. The actress was seen sobbing hysterically sitting on the floor while Rakhi's mother was shown fighting for her life in the video. Shaheer Sheikh rescues 16-month-old daughter, wheelchair-bound father-in-law and wife Ruchikaa Kapoor after fire breaks out in Andheri building

Last to last night was tough for the family of popular TV actor Shaheer Sheikh. For the unversed, on January 25, 2023, a massive fire broke out in the actor's building. Shaheer Sheikh's wife Ruchika Kapoor took to her verified social media handle and shared the details of the horrific incident. On a long note, Kapoor stated that she was at home with her 16-month-old daughter and parents and at around 1.30 am, she got a call that their building was on fire. However, after a lot of effort, the whole family was evacuated safely. Ruchikaa Kapoor thanked the firefighters and explained the incident in detail. She said that her father is wheelchair-bound while her daughter Anaya is just 16 months old. Given this, it was very difficult to get down the stairs from her 15th-floor apartment. Ruchikaa further added that Shaheer Sheikh and his brother-in-law along with firefighters came to rescue her. After a lot of effort, the whole family was evacuated till 5 in the morning. Pathaan protests in MP: Home Minister Narottam Mishra says there is no point in protesting now

Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film Pathaan is expected to earn around Rs 50 crores at the box office on its first day (yesterday). The film has succeeded in pulling large crowds into the cinema halls in such a way that it is expected to break the record of the highest opening for a Bollywood movie. But amidst such scenes, some Right Wing organizations held some protests against Pathaan in parts of Madhya Pradesh yesterday, as reported by NDTV. The film was under fire for the saffron coloured bikini worn by Deepika Padukone in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ as that colour is considered sacred by the Hindus. But the state’s Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said that there is no point in having any protests now as there have been “corrections” made in the film by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certifications). Speaking to a group of reporters, he said, “I believe all rectifications have been made in it (film). The Censor Board has made corrections. Controversial words have been removed. So, I don’t see any point in protesting now.” He also said that those who are still protesting against the movie will be “counselled,” added the same report by NDTV. Mishra, who is a part of the BJP, was one of the first persons to raise objections in Pathaan last month for the colour of the bikini in the said song. He had said then, “The outfits worn (by Deepika Padukone) in the song are objectionable. It is evident that this song has been picturized by polluted minds. Anyways, Deepika ji has been a supporter of the ‘Tukde Tukde’ gang; she attended the JNU protests. Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has successfully bagged yet another award at Saudi Arabia. He expressed his gratitude and gave a heartfelt acceptance speech while receiving the award. The actor shared the same on social media.

Amitabh Bachchan bagged Lifetime Achievement Award at 2023 Joy Awards for his contribution to the Indian movies. Legendary actor Bachchan took to his Instagram and shared the video. The post incorporated several clips from the actor’s film, following which he can be seen giving a speech. “My immense gratitude for your affection and care .. and for the honour ..”, the actor captioned while sharing the video.

In his speech he mentioned that it was his first visit to Saudi, but won’t be his last. The actor said, “I’ve always believed that cinema is a medium of entertainment, and it is a medium that brings people together and integrates human society. We come from different walks of life and come from different paths of the world, but when we watch something, we laugh at the same jokes and cry at the same things. We come together at one platform.”

“My father, a great poet - during the last days of his life, he used to watch a Hindi film every evening, sometimes repeating the same film every time. I asked him what is it that you find interesting in cinema. He said that I get poetic justice in three hours. You and I won’t get poetic justice in a lifetime or several lifetimes. That’s the power of cinema. I’m proud to be a very small part of the film industry of my country. When you honour me today, you honour the film industry of my country, you honour my country,” he further added.

Amitabh was accompanied by his family members including Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan in Saudi Arabia.

On the work front, Amitabh was last seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai. The actor has Project K in his pipeline, starring alongside Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.

Oscars 2023: Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes scores a nomination for India in Documentary Feature Film category

The 2023 Oscars are right around the corner. Before that, the nominations are an important milestone. The nominations for the 2023 Oscars are out and three of India’s projects were nominated. ‘Naatu Naatu’ from RRR for Best Original Song, The Elephant Whisperers for Best Documentary Short Film and Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes for Best Documentary Feature Film.

All That Breathes follows the story of two brothers Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad. In one of the world’s most populated cities, two brothers — Nadeem and Saud — devote their lives to the quixotic effort of protecting the black kite, a majestic bird of prey essential to the ecosystem of New Delhi that has been falling from the sky at alarming rates. Amid environmental toxicity and social unrest, the ‘kite brothers’ spend day and night caring for the creatures in their makeshift avian basement hospital.

Director Shaunak Sen explores the connection between the kites and the Muslim brothers who help them return to the skies, offering a mesmerizing chronicle of inter-species coexistence.

On the nomination day, many team members met each other in New Delhi to watch the Oscars 2023 nominations while others including Shaunak Sen who is currently in Los Angeles joined via zoom call. Producer Aman Mann told News18, “It is very hard to describe what we all felt at the moment the nominations came through, the entire journey that film has had is extremely dream-like and we are just happy, relieved and grateful for how well the film has been accepted and appreciated. On behalf of the entire team, I can clearly say that it feels good to think that hopefully, this means that we were able to do justice to the story of our characters.”

The 95th Oscars ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place on March 12.

Kartik Aaryan starrer Shehzada trailer crosses 100 million views across platforms

Ever since the trailer of director Rohit Dhawan’s Shehzada dropped on the internet and social media, Kartik Aaryan’s fans have gone into a frenzy. Although the actor is known for giving a series of commercial hits, this is the first time that he is starring in an out-and-out masala entertainer and this seems to have worked out well with the trailer going viral in no time.

Now, the Shehzada trailer has crossed a major milestone as it has gone past 100 million views across platform on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram in just 11 days.

Shehzada is the official Hindi remake of the Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. Released in 2020, the movie starred Allu Arjun in the lead role along with Pooja Hegde, Nivetha Pethuraj and Sushanth Anumolu. The remake has been produced by Bhushan Kumar under his banner T-Series.

Recently, Kartik was seen in Rajat Sharma’s television chat show Aap Ki Adalat. Among various things, he also spoke about him emerging as a major star of Bollywood lately. “I have always seen myself as no. 1,” he said on the show. “Slowly people are also getting to know that and are seeing me like that. But the audience’s love is what matters the most to me. I am desperate for their love and only for that am I obsessed with myself and want to give hit films... there’s only one Shehzada (prince) in the film industry.”

Shehzada is all set to release on February 10.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar slams Nora Fatehi’s accusations; says, “She already has taken a large amount from me to purchase a house for her family in Casablanca, Morocco”

Nora Fatehi and Sukesh Chandrashekhar are making headlines due to money laundering case. Nora had recently alleged that Sukesh had promised her a house. Sukesh accused Nora of buying her house in Morocco with his money. Sukesh had made shocking revelations regarding Nora claiming that Sukesh had promised her a big house and luxurious lifestyle in return of being his girlfriend. To which, Sukesh completely denied the claims Nora made on him and revealed that he was in serious relationship with actress Jacqueline Fernandez.

Both Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi have been in news due to their alleged involvement in the Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s Rs. 200 crores money laundering case. As reported by Hindustan Times, Sukesh claimed, “Today she (Nora) talks about me promising her a house, but she already has taken a large amount from me to purchase a house for her family in Casablanca, Morocco, all these new stories are crafted by her to escape law after ED statement 9 months ago given by her.”

“Nora claims that she did not want a car, or she did not take it for herself is a very big lie, as she was after my life that her car had to be changed, as the ‘CLA’ that she had looked very cheap, so then me and her selected car I gave her, and the chats and screenshots are very well with the ED, so there is no lie at all, in fact I wanted to give her Range rover, but as the car was not available in stock she wanted in urgent, I gave her the BMW S series, which she kept using for a long time, as she was a non-Indian, she asked me to register it on the name of her best friend’s husband Bobby’s name. Me and Nora never had a professional transaction, as she is claiming except for once that she attended an event hosted by my concern foundation, for which official payment was made to her agency,” he added.

The case is supervised under Delhi's Patiala House Court, which has deferred arguments in the alleged money laundering case on Monday. Court has also allowed the exemption pled filed by Jacqueline from her personal appearance in court. The matter will be next heard in court on February 15.

SCOOP: Ajay Devgn & Neeraj Pandey's next is a romantic thriller set in two eras

After Chanakya was put on the back burner, Ajay Devgn and Neeraj Pandey decided to collaborate on another project. It was announced in October last year without any of the two sharing any details about the genre. Bollywood Hungama has discovered that the film in question is a romantic thriller set in 2 eras.

"Ajay Devgn and Neeraj Pandey's next is set in the late 90s and the present times. It's a romantic thriller, whose story begins in the 1990s and then takes a 20-year leap switching to the present," a source told Bollywood Hungama, adding further that the younger portion is played by Saiee Majrekar and a young actor, whereas the older portion will see Ajay Devgn with Tabu.

It's a one of its kind film for Indian cinema and both Ajay and Neeraj are confident to win over their audience with their thriller. The film begins soon in Lucknow with a start-to-finish schedule. "Ajay Devgn has 25 days of work in the thriller and will complete all of it in one go. He will be shooting with Tabu soon in Lucknow," the source further told us.

The movie was announced for a June 2023 release, but we hear it has now been pushed further to the last quarter of 2023 and a new date will be announced once the shooting is wrapped up. Ajay will next be seen in Bholaa, which is all set for a March 30 release.

A few days back, there were reports about the teaser of Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan likely to be attached to the print of Shah Rukh Khan’s keenly-awaited upcoming action thriller Pathaan. Now it is official that the audience will get a glimpse of Bhai in the upcoming film, which also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.

The news is shared by the veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh on his official Twitter page. He shared an image of the announcement and wrote, “SALMAN KHAN: 'KISI KA BHAI KISI KI JAAN' TEASER WITH ‘PATHAAN’... Teaser of #SalmanKhan's #KisiKaBhaiKisiKiJaan with #Pathaan... #Eid 2023 release.”

Sharing the announcement Salman Khan as well took to social media posting an image saying, “#KisiKaBhaiKisiKiJaan Teaser ab dekho bade parde par on 25th Jan...”

Directed by Farhad Samji, the film was earlier titled Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali but was later changed. Produced by Salman Khan Films, it also stars Pooja Hegde and Shehnaaz Gill. Going by Salman’s look in the film, it is yet another action saga featuring him.

Along with Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, the audience will also get to see the trailers of the Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi-starrer Selfiee and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, with Pathaan.

Produced by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films, Pathaan is an action thriller where SRK’s titular character takes it upon himself to save India from a major terrorist attack. The film will be released in theatres worldwide on January 25.

Richa Chadha to headline a film based on the true stories of crisis during second Covid wave

Richa Chadha, who is known as an actress par excellence, will next be seen performing the role of a frontline worker during the second wave of the Covid crisis. The upcoming untitled film will be produced under the banner of Zee Studios.

Talking about the same, the 36-year-old actress says, “This is based on those real incidents that we all witnessed during the second wave of Covid. While there was loss and despair, there was also hope. In fact, I was so moved by this kindness of strangers that I started The Kindly, a small social media initiative that only amplified stories of goodness, and the selflessness through the second wave.”

The Fukrey actress further added, “The film takes a hard look at all our lives during the pandemic, where we were afraid to be human, there was enforced and mandatory distance. It talks about the doctors and nurses who were doing their job selflessly. I am honoured to play the role of one such resilient nurse.” 

The film is directed by Abhishek Acharya. Apart from that Richa has wrapped up the shoot of Girls will be Girls, the first movie of her co-owned home production. The film is an Indo-French co-production which is being jointly produced by Pushing Buttons Studios, Crawling Angel Films and the French company, Dolce Vita Films.

Vicky Kaushal to play Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Laxman Utekar’s next; film currently in pre-production stage

Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal is keen on doing a historical. The actor had previously signed Takht and The Immortal Ashwatthama but the projects were put on the back burner. This is his third historical which he has signed and it will be helmed by Laxman Utekar, which whom Vicky is doing a romantic comedy. The actor will essay the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the upcoming project. Sambhaji Bhosale, also called Sambhaji Raje, was the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, and the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He ruled from 1681 to 1689. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and the writing is completed. The actor has agreed to do the film and an announcement will be made sometime later.

According to Peeping Moon outlet, the project will be produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. “Laxman Utekar, who has previously directed light-hearted films like Luka Chuppi and Mimi, has been planning to make a film on Sambhaji Raje (as Sambhaji is formally called) for a long time. It’s an ambitious passion project that he is finally set to bring to life, and he is leaving no stone unturned to make it as grand as possible. He has been working on this project for the past six months and has brought on board a team of top-notch creative and technical talents. The writing is finished, and Laxman and his team are currently neck-deep in pre-production. Dinesh Vijan is giving his full support and has sanctioned a huge budget to make this film a truly visual spectacle,” the source told the outlet.

With this project, it will be the sixth role for Vicky Kaushal which will be inspired by real life. He previously played real-life roles or roles inspired by true events in Raazi, Sanju, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Sardar Udham and the upcoming project SamBahadur.

On the work front, Vicky Kaushal will next star in Meghna Gulzar’s SamBahadur, has another project with Laxman Utekar starring alongside Sara Ali Khan, and a YRF film with Manushi Chhillar.

Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol to team up after 27 years for Lahore: 1947, film expected to go on floors soon

Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol were a formidable director-actor pair in the 1990s with films like Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak gaining the status of iconic films. Following this, the two did try coming together again but things never fell in place. But now, after around 27 years, the two have joined hands for a film titled Lahore: 1947.

Santoshi shared the news during a conversation with PinkVilla. He also revealed that the film will go on floors soon and it will be “bigger” than his earlier films with Sunny. “Yes, my immediate next film is called Lahore: 1947. It’s set against the backdrop of partition with Sunny Deol in lead. Sunny and I were trying to make a film for a long time but nothing worked out. But now, I am confident that this film will be bigger than Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak,” said the filmmaker.

Sharing more details about the shoot, Santoshi added, “If everything goes as planned, we will take the film on floors from March 1 in Mumbai. We will be creating Lahore city in a studio. The set is a part of the story and a large chunk of film will be shot on this set. It’s a very ambitious film. This is my dream. I have been planning to make it for the last 10 years and things have finally fallen into place. I plan to wrap up Lahore: 1947 by May and then proceed to its post-production.”

Years ago, it was believed that there was a rift between Santoshi and Sunny, which reportedly escalated further when both of them released a film each on the revolutionary Bhagat Singh on the same day in 2002 titled The Legend Of Bhagat Singh and 23^rd March 1931: Shaheed respectively.

Lahore: 1947 will be Sunny's second movie on partition after the all-time blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). Interestingly, the sequel to the film, titled Gadar 2, is currently in the making.
