Drishyam gets Hollywood remake with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films

The cult franchise Drishyam is all set to go global after garnering massive success in the Indian and Chinese markets. Producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak announced the Korean remake of the thriller franchise at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, and now they announce the franchise’s new milestone. Panorama Studios has joined hands with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to make Drishyam in Hollywood, a first for an Indian film!

Gulfstream Pictures, co-founded by Mike Karz and Bill Bindley, have produced the romantic comedy Blended which reunited Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore and the workplace comedy Upgraded starring Camila Mendes, Marisa Tomei & Lena Olin. JOAT Films is founded by Jack Nguyen, a film industry veteran and a former Warner Bros executive supervising the Asia region's production business, especially market entries into China, Japan, India and Korea during his tenure with WB. JOAT specializes in cross-territorial local language remakes.

Panorama Studios has acquired the international remake rights to Drishyam 1 & 2 from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas. Drishyam is being developed in the US and Korea and a development deal is being finalized for a Spanish-language version. In addition, other countries are being considered.

Kumar Mangat Pathak, Chairman and Managing Director, of Panorama Studios, who has acquired the rights to the Drishyam franchise shares, “Drishyam's clever narrative has a universal appeal and we are keen to celebrate this story with audiences worldwide. We are very happy to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to create this story in English for Hollywood. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries in the next three to five years”.

Producer Abhishek Pathak who also directed Drishyam 2 shares, “We have received immense love from our Indian audiences, who have made the Drishyam franchise a massive success. The strength of Drishyam lies in its story, and we want it to be enjoyed by audiences globally. We are very happy to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films, who will take this franchise forward in English for the US and other international Hollywood markets.”

In a joint statement, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley of Gulfstream Pictures share, “We are very happy to collaborate with Panorama Studios and JOAT Films on an English language adaptation of Drishyam. The film is a timeless thriller that has entranced audiences across the globe. We can't wait to bring the movie to fans here in the U.S."

While the Korean and English versions are in the making, the remake of the Malayalam film has had a successful run in various languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Sinhala and Chinese.

The Immortals of Meluha rights no longer with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions; author Amish Tripathi seeks new production house

Author Amish Tripathi, known for his captivating blend of myth, history, and fantasy in his novels, has confirmed that the film rights to his bestselling book The Immortals of Meluha are no longer with Karan Johar owned-Dharma Productions.

In a recent interview with India Today, the renowned author stated, “The rights for The Immortals of Meluha have come back to me now. It was with Dharma earlier. We are in negotiation with another production house currently.” However, he refrained from disclosing the name of the new production house, citing the early stage of discussions.

Dharma Productions, led by filmmaker Karan Johar, had previously acquired the film rights to The Immortals of Meluha. Reports suggested Johar envisioned actors like Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra for the lead roles. However, the project did not materialise.

Published in 2010, The Immortals of Meluha is the first book in Tripathi's highly successful Shiva Trilogy. It reimagines the story of the Hindu deity Shiva in a fictional setting, captivating readers across the globe. The book's success propelled Tripathi to literary fame, leading him to pen other bestselling novels like The Secret of the Nagas, The Oath of the Vayuputras, and the ongoing Ram Chandra Series.

Speaking of KJo’s professional front, he is currently awaiting the releases of two of his upcoming productions, Yodha and Showtime. While Yodha will be released theatrically, Showtime, a web show, will start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from March 8 onwards. It stars Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Rajiv Khandelwal and others. 

Meanwhile, Yodha will be led by Sidharth Malhotra and Raashii Khanna. Disha Patani will be seen playing an important character. It is scheduled to release on March 15.

Shreyas Talpade hints at Golmaal 5 release date: “I'm hoping that we do…”

Get ready to laugh out loud, Golmaal fans! Actor Shreyas Talpade, a member of the franchise's cast, has shared exciting news about the highly anticipated fifth instalment.

In a recent interview with News 18, Talpade revealed his hope for a Diwali 2025 release, stating, "I'm hoping that we do it next year and next Diwali is when we get to see Golmaal 5.” This update follows director Rohit Shetty's earlier announcement confirming the film's production within the next two years.

Expressing his deep connection to the franchise, Shreyas shared, "Golmaal is very close to our hearts... It was so much fun on the sets that we couldn't face each other and say our lines because we would burst out laughing.”

The 48-year-old actor also expressed his observation of a shift in the comedy film landscape, highlighting a lack of ensemble comedies like Golmaal and Housefull in recent times. He pointed out the enduring popularity of these earlier films and questioned the current trend.

He asserted, "There has been a shift in comedy. We recently haven't come up with something like Golmaal or Housefull... There was a phase in 2005 where multi-starrer comedy films were coming in one after the other... They were making films and not projects. They wanted to get the best people and not who was available. There used to be a soul in it.”

While fans eagerly await Golmaal 5, Talpade can be seen next in the Marathi film Hee Anokhi Gaath. He also has Welcome To The Jungle lined up for the future.

Abdu Rozik gets questioned by ED in money laundering case

Best known for his social media posts and also a key contestant of Bigg Boss 16, Tajikistani singer Abdu Rozik was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate owing to his association with Aliasgar Shirazi. On Tuesday, after reportedly a three-hour questioning session, the ED recorded Abdu’s statement after his name was associated with the hospitality and consultancy firm which was under the name Shirazi.

For the unversed, reports revealed that Aliasgar Shirazi was taken into custody under the charges of narcotics trafficking of a drug named Ketamine, on January 5. Followed by this, the ED investigated further when the name of Abdu Rozik is expected to have cropped up as an an ambassador for one of their business ventures. As per close sources claiming in reports, Abdu was approached by the company to be associated with their hospitality brand and presented him with an offer of being a brand ambassador for one of their upcoming fast-food joints, to which the singer agreed.

Abdu, in his statement, reportedly has asserted that he has never met Shirazi and also maintained that he had entered the contract in a profit sharing basis, once the food joint started. In the same statement, Rozik also assured that he never received anything further since the deal did not work out and the restaurant too was shut down later.

The Tajikistan singer’s lawyer Prashant Patil was quoted in a Hindustan Times report giving out a statement about Abdu, saying, “My client, Abdu Rozik, was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in the capacity of a prosecution witness against one Krunal Oza of Hustlers Hospitality Private Limited. As his duty towards the law enforcement agencies in our country, Abdu Rozik has travelled all over from Dubai to depose his statement under section 50 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act.”

“He has provided the necessary documents and has cooperated with the investigation. He stands committed to cooperating with the investigation as and when required. My client did not get even a penny from the firm for the brand ambassador role, and he played no role in the case as per ED’s probe,” the advocate added.

Taapsee Pannu to tie the knot with longtime beau Mathias Boe in Sikh – Christian ceremonies in March 2024: Report

Following the marriage festivities of Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani, actress Taapsee Pannu is set to tie the knot with her longtime beau and badminton player, Mathias Boe. It will be a Sikh – Christian fusion affair, set to take place in March 2024.

As per a report in NDTV, sources told the publication “The wedding extravaganza is set to take place in the enchanting city of Udaipur. We have heard that it's going to be a complete family affair and no big Bollywood A-listers are expected.” The couple will be following both of their traditions and cultures for the ceremonies.

Taapsee Pannu and Mathias Boe have been in a relationship for over 10 years, but have continued to remain private about it.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Taapsee Pannu was last seen in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki. She will next star in the comedy-drama film, Woh Ladki Hai Kahan. The movie is written and directed by Arshad Syed. It also stars Pratik Gandhi and Prateik Babbar. Next up is, the Haseen Dillruba sequel, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, alongside Vikrant Massey, Sunny Kaushal, and Jimmy Shergill. The film’s shoot has been wrapped and it will arrive in 2024. Starring Dharmendra and Dimple Kapadia, the story revolves around a man who falls in love with a robot. However, things take a twist in the family entertainer when the robot becomes a nuisance.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah, was released in theatres on February 9, 2024. The film also had a special appearance by Janhvi Kapoor. Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas’ last rites to be held in Mumbai on February 27, confirms daughter Nayaab Udhas

Veteran ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at age 72. After a prolonged illness, the singer breathed his last on February 26, as confirmed by his daughter Nayaab Udhas. The singer was undergoing pancreatic cancer treatment. He died around 11 am at the Breach Candy Hospital on Monday. The last rites will be conducted on February 27 in Mumbai.

A statement shared by Udhas’ daughter Nayaab Udhas on her Instagram read, “In loving memory of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas. With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of his demise on the 26 of February 2024 due to a prolonged illness. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 27, from 3 to 5 pm. Venue: Hindu Crematorium. Worli (Mumbai) Landmark Opp. Four Seasons: Dr E Muses Rd. Worli. The Udhas Family.”

Known as one of the finest ghazal singers in India, Pankaj Udhas was born on May 17, 1951, in Gujarat. He was widely acclaimed for his ghazals and his soulful renditions. Udhas rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s and became one of the most popular ghazal singers in India. His rich, melodious voice and emotive performances have earned him a large and devoted fan base both in India and abroad.

Some of Pankaj Udhas' most famous ghazals include ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’, ‘Aur Aahista Kijiye Baatein’, ‘Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera’, and ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhar’ among others. He released numerous albums over the years and collaborated with other notable artists in the Indian music industry.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: Cops resort to lathi charge at Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Lucknow event, watch

Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, stars of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, along with Manushi Chillar and Alaya F, recently wrapped the extensive Jordan schedule of the film. The actors filmed four songs in Jordan, one with Sonakshi Sinha’s special appearance. The makers recently unveiled the movie's title track on February 19, 2024. They kicked off the film’s promotions in Lucknow with live-action stunts. However, the event took a turn when the cops had to resort to lathi charge to control the crowd.

In viral videos, UP Police has to resort to lathi charge when the crowd became unruly. They were allegedly throwing chappals and a stampede almost broke out. Though Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff were at a safe distance from the mob, the videos from the event have gone viral that the crowd became unruly after the stars threw merchandise at them.

“Fans made a scramble to catch the items that were thrown towards them, which broke the barricades that were supposed to hold them back,” said Anand Krishna, representative of the PR company which organised the event, as per News18. “The actors left the show midway much before the scheduled time,” a person involved in the event said.

Shot across stunning locations including Mumbai, London, Abu Dhabi, Scotland, and Jordan, the film features Prithviraj Sukumaran in an intriguing villainous role.

Vashu Bhagnani and Pooja Entertainment present Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in association with AAZ films. Written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Jackky Bhagnani, Himanshu Kishan Mehra, and Ali Abbas Zafar. Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra and Imtiaz Ali set to bring Amar Singh Chamkila on Netflix on April 12, see first poster

Imtiaz Ali's latest directorial, Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, is all set for its release. Premiering April 12, the film charts the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar of the masses, the highest record-selling artist of his time, Amar Singh Chamkila, often referred to as the “Elvis Presley of Punjab''. Shot in real locations, the film promises to transport the audiences to the vibrant and rhythmic world of Punjab's folk music, right to the rustic Akhadaas (live music performances in villages) where Chamkila’s voice would once roar. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot, Chamkila’s wife and singing partner.

With the maestro AR Rahman helming the music for the film and Irshad Kamil penning the lyrics, the audience will once again get to witness the magic of a Rahman–Itiaz–Irshad collaboration. Adding to the excitement, both Diljit and Parineeti have lent their voices to some of the songs! For the first time, the film will showcase live music recordings done on locations capturing the rawness and the exuberance of each moment as Diljit & Parineeti sing live in the Akhadaas.

SCOOP: Yash Raj Films to distribute Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in overseas territories

Around 1 ½ months are left for the release of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and the excitement is considerable. The film has caught attention due to the coming together of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff for the first time, mass appeal, grandeur and stylized action scenes, as visible in the teaser and BTS video released by the makers. And now, Bollywood Hungama has learned that besides Akshay and Tiger, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan will also bring two prominent production houses for the first time.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Yash Raj Films (YRF) is all set to distribute Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in overseas markets. The film is produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment and is the first time that they have joined hands with YRF for distribution. They are happy to have Aditya Chopra’s reputed banner on board to release their film in foreign lands and they are confident that they’ll get the best of screens.”

An industry insider commented, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan releases on Eid. This is a great time for cinema as families come out in large numbers to catch the latest flick in the Middle East and other big markets like the USA, UK, Canada, Australia/New Zealand etc. As a result, the film has a chance to score and with YRF coming on board; they’ll surely give the film a great release that it rightfully deserves.”

YRF Distribution has distributed several films made by outside banners over the years. Some of these movies are Dunki (2023), Jawan (2023), Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023), Kuttey (2023), Drishyam 2 (2022), Uunchai (2022), Runway 34 (2022), Dabangg 3 (2019), Zero (2018), Race 3 (2018) etc. For films like Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Kuttey etc, YRF was the distributor not just overseas but also in India.

Besides Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F. It is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Incidentally, Ali began his career with Yash Raj Films and the collaboration also marks his reunion with the banner.

Don 3: Ranveer Singh and Kiara Advani to begin action training in March with experts from Thailand – Report

Earlier in February 2024, Bollywood Hungama reported that Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar plan to take the third installment of Don on floors by August 2024. A week ago, Kiara Advani was officially announced as the leading lady of Don 3, presumably playing Roma. Now, the makers are planning to begin work on the project by next month with action training with experts from Thailand.

As per a report in Mid-Day, a source revealed, “Ranveer and Kiara will start their physical prep, beginning with agility training, from late March. Experts in martial arts from Thailand have been roped in.” Farhan Akhtar is keen on amping up the action quotient in the film.

The source added, “In the last few years, Hindi cinema has seen every type of stylized action— from War [2019] to Pathaan [2023] and Fighter. So, Farhan wants to make the action syntax fresh. He has had several meetings with action choreographers from India and other countries to discuss the possibilities. He wants the palette to be different from whatever the tentpole movies have offered in recent years.”

Earlier in February 2024, a source told Bollywood Hungama, “The film is currently in the casting stage. It’s 100% true that the pre-production of Don 3 will commence next month. The team will then start shooting the film from August this year. There were surprising twists in the first two Don movies. Similarly, it is said that Don 3 too will have some surprises in store for the audience.”

Just a few days ago, we also reported the massive budget of the film. According to a source close to the project, Don 3 will be the most expensive Don film. “Don 1 and Don 2 with Shah Rukh Khan were made on decent budgets, but with Don 3, Farhan Akhtar aims to make a global film. The vision with Don 3 is not just to compete with action films of India, but also to go global on the scale front. Don 3 is Farhan's attempt to make a global action thriller and no one better than Ranveer Singh to spearhead the franchise in the new era,” the source said.

Don 3 will be made on a budget of Rs. 275 crore, not taking into account the print and publicity expenses. “The action has been visualized in a way that Don 3 stands tall against the Spy Universe. However, what separates Don 3 from other action films of India is the protagonist, who has shades of negative elements,” the source told us further.

The first film in the franchise Don, which released in 2006 and was produced by Excel Entertainment, was the remake of director Chandra Barot’s classic Don, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and was released in 1978. Don 2 was the sequel to the 2006 movie and it took the story of the dreaded Don forward. Lahore 1947 cinematographer Santosh Sivan to be honored with Pierre Angénieux tribute at Cannes

The upcoming film Lahore 1947 produced by Aamir Khan Productions is indeed one of the most awaited films that have been eagerly looked up to by the masses. Kumar Shahani, Maya Darpan and Khayal Gatha filmmaker, passes away at 83

Filmmaker Kumar Shahani, regarded as one of the pioneers of Indian parallel cinema, passed away in Kolkata on Saturday, February 24. He was 83. With a career spanning six decades, Shahani directed some of the most critically acclaimed movies including Maya Darpan (1972), Tarang (1984), Khayal Gatha (1989) and Kasba (1990).

Born on December 7, 1940, in Larkana, British India (now in Pakistan), Kumar Shahani studied at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, where he was deeply influenced by the works of filmmakers like Ritwik Ghatak and Jean-Luc Godard. His films often explored complex cultural, social, and political issues, reflecting his deep engagement with Indian classical arts and literature.

His film Maya Darpan won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 1973. He also taught at various institutions, including the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, where he himself was trained.

Priyanka Chopra boards Oscar-nominated documentary To Kill A Tiger as executive producer

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has joined the Academy Award-nominated documentary feature To Kill A Tiger, as one of the executive producers. She joins a long list of producers, including Dev Patel, and Mindy Kaling, among others. This news comes after Netflix inked a deal for the documentary to be launched globally on the streaming platform.

As per Deadline, an official statement read, “Priyanka has stood as an unwavering advocate for the film since debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022, captivated by its poignant narrative depicting a father’s valiant struggle within the judicial system to secure justice for his daughter.”

Among the several executive producers include Dr. Atul Gawande, the surgeon and bestselling author, Canadian poet Rupi Kaur, writer-producer Andy Cohen, Deepa Mehta, Anita Lee, Andrew Dragoumis, Shivani Rawat, Mona Sinha, Mala Gaonkar, Regina Scully, Anita Bhatia, Niraj Bhatia, and others.

Co-produced by Notice Pictures Inc. and the National Film Board of Canada, To Kill A Tiger is a story about Ranjit, a farmer in Jharkhand, India, who takes on the fight of his life when he demands justice for his 13-year-old daughter, the survivor of sexual assault. In India, where rape is reported every 20 minutes and conviction rates are less than 30 percent, Ranjit’s decision to support his daughter is virtually unheard of, and his journey is unprecedented.

Directed by Nisha Pahuja, the documentary feature has won several awards including Best Documentary at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the Amplify Voices Award at Toronto International Film Festival, and Best Feature Documentary at the Canadian Screen Awards. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff to kick off promotions in Lucknow with daredevil stunts in front of thousands of fans

Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, stars of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, along with Manushi Chillar and Alaya F, recently wrapped the extensive Jordan schedule of the film. The actors filmed four songs in Jordan, one with Sonakshi Sinha’s special appearance. The makers recently unveiled the movie's title track on February 19, 2024. After buying a property worth nearly Rs. 13 crores in Alibaug, Suhana Khan buys one more property in the beach town for more than Rs. 10 crores

Suhana Khan is on a roll. After debuting with The Archies (2023) last year, she has now taken another significant step. As per reports, she has bought a sprawling property in Alibaug, located near Mumbai, for a sum of more than Rs. 10 crores. Incidentally, this is the second time that she has acquired a property in the seaside town.

Talking about her recent purchase, an article in The Economic Times stated that Suhana’s property includes three structures spread over nearly 1.8 acres. These structures have a carpet area of 1,218 sp ft, 196 sp ft and 120 sq ft respectively. The deal was sealed on February 12 and the next day, she paid a stamp duty of Rs. 57 lakhs.

Previously, Suhana Khan had bought a 1.5-acre property with three houses. It cost her Rs. 12.91 crores for which she paid a stamp duty of Rs. 77.46 lakhs. The property was registered in her name on June 1, 2023. It is located in Thal village and at one point, it belonged to the descendants of veteran actor Durga Khote. As per The Economic Times article, both the properties bought by Suhana Khan are situated close to each other.

Alibaug is located around 100 km away from Mumbai and the Roll-on-Roll-off (RORO) service has shortened the distance between the two. Besides Suhana, her superstar father Shah Rukh Khan also owns a mansion in Alibaug.

Several other celebrities, industrialists and sportsmen, too, have an abode in this sleepy town. Juhi Chawla has owned a property for a long time which she has now converted into an organic farm. Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone, Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, too, have made investments in Alibaug. In 2022, as per reports, cricketer Virat Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma jointly bought an 8-acre land in Alibaug through two separate transactions for nearly Rs. 19.24 crores.

T-Series DENIES rumors of Baseraa remake; calls it “baseless and false news”

Music giant T-Series has officially squashed rumours circulating online about a potential remake of the classic film Baseraa. In a statement released today, a T-Series spokesperson firmly denied any such plans, calling the reports "baseless and false news."

"We would like to clarify that we are not making a remake of the movie Baseraa, the statement declared. "These are rumours, and we will also be replying to the notice received." This statement comes in response to recent media speculation fueled by a report suggesting Aashiqui 3 would be a remake of Baseraa, starring Kartik Aaryan. 

For the unversed, Baseraa was released in 1981 starring Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee and Rekha in the lead. 

T-Series further shed light on its unwavering commitment to delivering original content to its audiences. "Our focus remains on delivering quality music and entertainment," the statement reiterated. "We have no plans to deviate from that mission."

The recent rumors likely stemmed from the confirmed production of Aashiqui 3, which will be directed by Anurag Basu and co-produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and Mukesh Bhatt. While details about the film's plot remain under wraps, the official title and casting information have yet to be announced.

Bahl further stated that the decision to wait for a strong script wasn't driven by finances. "If I didn't feel the pressure of matching up to expectations," he says, "I would have already made it four years back just for money. But we were very sure that we won't do it until we get a story that delivers as much as Queen did."

The upcoming March holds double significance for Bahl. Queen marks its 10th anniversary on March 7, followed by the release of his next film, Shaitaan, starring R Madhavan, Ajay Devgn, and Jyothika, on March 9. Additionally, the second season of his web series Sunflower is set to premiere on Zee5 on March 1.

The Manikarnika actress took to social media to lash out at Khanna and even went on to describe her as one of the privileged brats and nepo kids.

Taking to her Instagram story, she shared a short version of the reel which featured Twinkle Khanna talking about feminism from a certain event. In the social media post, Kangana Ranaut questioned Khanna’s idea of feminism and lashed out at her for the comments she made about men, saying, “What are these privileged brats who call their men polythene bags, are they trying to be cool?? Nepo kids born with silver spoon, given film careers on golden platters, couldn't do justice to that for sure, least they could do find some joy and fulfilment in selfless of motherhood thaat also seems like a curse in their case what exactly do they want to be ?? Vegetables?? Is that feminism ??”

On the other hand, talking about Twinkle Khanna, the actress turned author was seen tackling the concept of equality wherein she commented, “I think we do need men. It's almost like a handbag. We can carry things in a plastic bag but it's nice to have a kelly. It's pretty much that.”

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor reunite for second time for Shashank Khaitan's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari

Bollywood Hungama on Wednesday exclusively informed the readers that Dulhania duo Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan are reuniting for the third time. After Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, the duo will be working on Dharma Productions' Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari along with Janhvi Kapoor. The official announcement was made on February 22, 2024. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film is slated to release on the silver screen on April 18, 2025!

The announcement read, "This love story wrapped with entertainment is coming to the big screens! #SunnySanskariKiTulsiKumari in cinemas, 18th April 2025!"

The duo previously were supposed to work on Shashank Khaitan's Ranbhoomi. However, the project was put on back burner. The last time Shashank Khaitan donned the director’s hat was for the film Govinda Naam Mera, which was released directly on Disney+ Hotstar in 2022. It starred Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani in pivotal roles. On the other hand, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor worked together in Bawaal in 2023.

Agastya Nanda describes Jaya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan and Navya Naveli Nanda as ‘watered down versions of each other’ in the new podcast episode

From parenthood to love life, the podcast kicked off by entrepreneur Navya Naveli Nanda, who is also the granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan, has successfully reached the third season, which aims at getting three generations together. Tracing changes through generations, the podcast features Navya’s grandmother Jaya Bachchan and mother Shweta Bachchan. The teaser of the upcoming fourth episode of the show, is also expected to feature Agastya Nanda, who recently made his Bollywood debut.

While the teaser does showcase how the women of the family are talking about Agastya Nanda and gives us a sneak peek into his real-life camaraderie with the trio, it also showcases the immense respect the budding actor has for the women in the family. In fact, talking about growing in a household with such strong women, Agastya was seen saying in the teaser, "I have grown up surrounded by very strong, opinionated women And you all are a watered-down version of each other”. Navya Naveli Nanda, who refrains from Bollywood and has been following the footsteps of her father by pursuing her passion for business, kicked off What The Hell Navya a couple of years ago, wherein for the first time ever, fans got to witness the three generations of Bachchan women discussing a wide range of subjects and concepts and sharing their opinions.

On the other hand, her brother and Shweta’s son Agastya Nanda is a passionate actor and made his big Bollywood debut alongside Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies. EXCLUSIVE: Pathaan and Tiger 3 writer Shridhar Raghavan to make his Hollywood debut with a horror series in collaboration with Peter Safran and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick of The Conjuring and Aquaman fame

Shridhar Raghavan has become a force to reckon with in recent times. He’s considered as a mentor to the much-loved YRF (Yash Raj Films) Spy Universe. He wrote the recent films of this series like the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer War (2019), the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan (2023) and Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3 (2023). The writer began his career writing TV shows like ‘CID’ and ‘Aahat’ and then also scripted acclaimed films and shows like Khakee (2004), Bluffmaster (2005), Criminal Justice, The Night Manager etc. And now, he adds another feather to his cap. He’s all set to make his debut in Hollywood as the writer of an upcoming horror series.

This series in question will be backed by Reliance Entertainment along with visionary Hollywood producer Peter Safran. Acclaimed writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is also a part of it.

Speaking exclusively with Bollywood Hungama, Shridhar Raghavan said, “A few years back, Peter Safran, who’s a famous producer and who made The Conjuring, approached Reliance Entertainment while looking for interesting material in the supernatural genre. I was, at that time, working on a young adult book, which was in the same zone. After ‘Aahat’, I never wrote anything supernatural. My kids love reading. Hence, I felt it’d be good fun to write a story to scare the hell out of them!”

Shridhar continued, “Reliance spoke to me and I talked to Peter Safran. I sent him the book I was working on and he liked the idea. I then started developing it. Peter Safran will produce the show along with Reliance. It’ll have around 6-8 episodes. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who wrote Aquaman, is my script consultant. Currently, we have locked the script. It took us 4 ½ years to do so. Covid delayed the process.”

Stating that “Both Peter Safran and David are superb,” Shridhar Raghavan stated, “I am a classic horror fan. I love films like The Omen (1976), The Exorcist (1973), Rosemary’s Baby (1968) etc. I don’t mind recent horror films. But for me, The Omen is the (classic) horror film. In fact, horror is the wrong word. These films are dramas with supernatural elements. The Omen is a father-son story, Rosemary’s Baby is a mother-daughter tale while The Exorcist is about a priest and a girl who is possessed.”

Peter Safran is the co-chairman and CEO of DC Studios alongside James Gunn. He has produced all the films of the Conjuring universe and also DC Superhero films like Shazam (2019), The Suicide Squad (2021), Shazam! Fury Of The Gods (2023), Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom (2023), etc. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, meanwhile wrote Orphan (2009), The Conjuring 2 (2016), Aquaman (2018), The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021), Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom etc.

As per a press release released by Reliance Entertainment in February 2023, Peter Safran and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick are also making a horror series with Vikram Bhatt.

Shah Rukh Khan gives heartwarming speech after winning Best Actor for Jawan at Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2024: “Bahut saal ho gaye”

Shah Rukh Khan won the Best Actor award at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2024 on Tuesday night in Mumbai. He won the said award for his performance in Atlee Kumar’s directorial, Jawan. During his speech, the actor confessed that it had been a while since he received Best Actor and he had started to believe he might not win now.

“Shukriya sari jury member ka jinhone mujhko best actor ke liye layak samjha aur bahut saal ho gaye mujhe best actor ka award nahin mila toh aisa lagne laga tha ki ab milega hi nahin. Mujhe bahut khushi hai. Mujhe awards bahut ache lagte hai …main thoda laalchi hoon, greedy hoon. (I thank the jury who considered me worthy of the Best Actor award. I have not received the Best Actor Award in a long time. It seemed as if I would not get it again…So I am extremely happy. I like awards. I am a bit greedy),” Shah Rukh Khan said in his speech, which left the audience in splits.

He saw Dunki director Vidhu Vinod Chopra in the audience and quipped, “Mere se zyada Vidhu Vinod Chopra ko acche lagte hai. Hum dono share kar lenge,” he said.

Shah Rukh Khan went on to thank Atlee, his co-stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, music director Anirudh Ravichander and everyone involved in making Jawan a stupendous success. “I am genuinely thrilled and touched that people have recognized the work that I have put in. Work of an artist is not important… all the people around him or her make everything come together. I promise I will keep working hard and entertain India and people who are living abroad as many years as I can. Whether it takes me to dance, to fall, to fly, to romance, to be evil, to be a bad guy, to be a good guy… Inshallah, I will keep working hard,” he said.

In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan made a smashing return with Pathaan, followed by Jawan and Dunki. The former two films ended up earning more than Rs. 1000 crore at the box office globally whereas Dunki was also a success with Rs. 212.42 crores at the Indian box office.

Rituraj Singh, Varun Dhawan’s co-star in Badrinath Ki Dulhania, passes away due to cardiac arrest at 59

Renowned actor Rituraj Singh passed away on Tuesday, February 20, leaving the entertainment industry and his fans mourning his demise. According to reports from ETimes, the 59-year-old actor had been battling a pancreatic disease and was hospitalized after suffering a cardiac arrest. Tragically, he succumbed to his condition on Tuesday.

Confirming the sad news, Rituraj's close friend Amit Bhel stated to the entertainment portal, “Yes he passed away due to cardiac arrest. He was admitted to a hospital some time back for treatment of pancreas returned home had some cardiac complications and passed away.” However, details regarding his final rites are yet to be disclosed.

Actor Amit Behl revealed to Indian Express that Rituraj Singh breathed his last at 12:30 am. He explained, “He was unwell. Was hospitalised 15 days back due to some pancreatic issues. Was back home few days back, but yesterday was feeling really weak and they rushed him to hospital. But he got the attack before reaching hospital.”

Rituraj Singh's illustrious career spanned various television shows, including Banegi Apni Baat, Jyoti, Hitler Didi, Shapath, Warrior High, Aahat, and Adaalat, among others. He gained widespread acclaim for his role in the hit show Anupamaa. He was also seen alongside Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

Salman Khan-Shah Rukh Khan starrer Tiger vs Pathaan set to roll this summer: Report

The anticipation among fans of Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan has reached a fever pitch as the two Bollywood actors gear up to share the big screen in the much-awaited film, Tiger vs Pathaan, slated to kickstart its production in April this year. After numerous delays, the project finally seems to be materializing.

According to a report by Zoom TV, a close source revealed that both Salman and Shah Rukh have allocated their schedules for an April shoot, signalling the commencement of filming for Tiger vs Pathaan. The insider disclosed, “SRK and Salman have given their dates. As things stand today, the film should go on floors no later than April. The balance cast is being decided. The other modalities are fast being worked out.”

While the main cast is set to feature the two actors, the return of actresses Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone remains uncertain. Katrina portrayed the character Zoya in the Tiger series, while Deepika was introduced as Rubina in Pathaan. Fans are eager to know if these leading ladies will reprise their roles in the upcoming film.

Kartik Aaryan starrer Aashiqui 3 retitled Tu Aashiqui Hai; film to be inspired by Basera: Report

Hold onto your hats, Aashiqui fans! The highly anticipated Kartik Aaryan starrer, initially announced as Aashiqui 3, has undergone a name change and a surprising twist. According to recent reports, the film will now be called Tu Aashiqui Hai and reportedly draw inspiration from the 1981 romantic drama Basera.

A recent report by Times Now quoted a source saying, “Aashiqui 3 is now titled Tu Aashiqui Hai. It is based on the 1981 film, Basera, starring Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, and Rekha. The film will go on floors later this year. Tripti and Kartik will play the lead roles, and the producers are yet to lock one more actress for the movie.”

While the makers haven't officially confirmed Tu Aashiqui Hai as a remake of Basera, the choice of title and reported inspiration certainly sparks curiosity. Basera explored complex emotions and relationships, elements resonating strongly with the Aashiqui franchise. Will Kartik and Triptii bring a contemporary twist to this classic love story? Only time will tell!

Meanwhile, News18 reported a strict no-phone policy at the wedding. Guests will reportedly deposit their phones for the ceremony, respecting the couple's desire for privacy. Official photographs will be shared post-wedding.

The guest list boasts prominent names like Aditya Roy Kapur and Ananya Pandey, expected to arrive on February 20th. The pre-wedding celebrations kicked off with a dhol night at Jackky's home, where Rakul looked radiant in green. The couple also sought blessings at a Mumbai temple before their journey to Goa.

While details remain under wraps, fans can expect official photos and updates post-wedding.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the couple will kick off their pre-wedding functions in Goa from February 19 onwards that is today. Rakul and Jackky are also planning to maintain eco-friendly because of which they do not have paper invites and they will also be avoiding the use of firecrackers. Post her wedding on February 21, Rakul is expected to resume work within the same week along with her to-be husband Jackky.

EXCLUSIVE: Despite the jail sentence, Rajkumar Santoshi has not gone behind bars and can file an appeal; lawyer of the complainant shares details; Santoshi’s lawyer releases statement

Yesterday, Bollywood Hungama was one of the first websites to break the news that a Jamnagar court has sentenced Rajkumar Santoshi to jail for two years in a cheque bounce case. At the same time, the court also ordered the filmmaker to deposit double the amount that the filmmaker owed the complainant. The news spread like wild fire and many assumed that Rajkumar had gone behind bars already. Bollywood Hungama has learned that the acclaimed filmmaker has the right to file an appeal and thus save himself from going to jail.

The complainant, Ashok Lal, a resident of Jamnagar and the owner of Shreeji Shipping, had loaned Rajkumar Santoshi Rs. 1.10 crore in 2015 for a film. To repay the loan, Rajkumar gave Ashok Lal 11 cheques of Rs. 10 lakhs each. These cheques bounced in December 2016. The complainant at first tried to establish contact with the filmmaker over this matter. When he failed to do so, Ashok Lal filed the suit under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Piyush Bhojani, the advocate for Ashok Lal. Piyush confirmed that Rajkumar Santoshi was not present during the hearing on February 17. He also explained, “The maximum imprisonment in such negotiable cases is two years and the maximum fine is double the amount owed. Once the judgment is announced, the accused gets a period of 30 days to file an appeal. After filing the appeal, he has to deposit 20% of the amount. In other words, he’s bound to deposit Rs. 22 lakhs. If he fails to do so, he’ll be imprisoned.” He continued, “If we win after he files the appeal, he’ll go to the High Court where again, he’ll have to deposit 20% of the amount.”

Piyush Bhojani also revealed that this was not the first case against Rajkumar Santoshi by the complainant, “Three cases were also filed against him in 2014.” When asked how both parties met, he replied, “Mr Ashok Lal is a businessman. He also has an office and residence in Mumbai. They met and became friends. In the past, Mr Santoshi had taken the loan several times but he had always returned the amount within the stipulated time. This time, however, he defaulted.”

Rajkumar Santoshi even skipped hearings several times. In April 2023, he had to attend the hearing after a bailable warrant was issued against him. Piyush Bhojani stated, “He came for the hearings twice. He had to come when the case was filed in 2017. It's mandatory. Then he attended a hearing last year. This time probably, he was aware that he’d be punished. Hence, he skipped attending the hearing. But now, he’ll have to attend to file the appeal. It can’t be done without his presence.”

The chances of Rajkumar Santoshi going behind bars are unlikely, said the lawyer, “Very few people go to jail in such cases.” He added, “Mr Ashok Lal is ultra-rich and has his own private jet. The amount was not a significant one for him. But this case was important for us so that a message is sent loud and clear to everyone that if they try to run away with his money, he/she will be punished.”

Meanwhile, Rajkumar Santoshi's advocate, Binesh Patel, released a statement, “First of all, the court has stayed its judgement for 30 days and has granted Mr Santoshi bail after we sought time to appeal against the judgement at a higher forum. The prosecution didn't produce any documentary evidence to prove that Mr Santoshi had taken money at all. The prosecution itself has admitted that a third party had collected the said money from the complainant. In return, the third party had provided altered eleven cheques of Rs.10 lakhs each, which Mr Santoshi was not aware of. The magisterial court overlooked these facts and ruled against us. Therefore, on the grounds of invalid and false claims, alterations happened in the cheques. The fact is that the complainants do not want to present or call in the said third party who had collected the money, about whom Mr Santoshi does not know. So, we shall appeal at a higher forum with the above-highlighted points and even more.”

Dangal actress Suhani Bhatnagar was diagnosed with dermatomyositis, reveal reports

The news of the demise of the young Suhani Bhatnagar sent shock waves across the Indian film industry on Saturday. On February 17, after news reports were abuzz about the demise of the teenage star, the reason for this remained mystery. Now, her parents have thrown light on the sudden death of their 19-year-old daughter and revealed that she was suffering dermatomyositis, a rare disease which affected one out of millions in the world.

For the unversed, the Faridabad-based Suhani Bhatnagar was admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on February 7. However, her condition worsened which eventually led to her demise, revealed reports. In an interaction with ANI, Suhani’s father Sumit Bhatnagar mentioned that it all started with her developing rash-kind of issues on her skin, which was later diagnosed to be dermatomyositis. But her lungs started failing which eventually led to her demise.

“She developed a red spot on her hands about two months ago. We thought it was allergy and we consulted with doctors in different hospitals in Faridabad but it couldn't be diagnosed. When her condition started deteriorating, we got her admitted to AIIMS. But there was no improvement and her lungs were damaged due to accumulation of excess fluid," he told.

Suhani Bhatnagar catapulted to fame with her debut sports biopic Dangal based on Mahavir Phogat and his daughters, featuring Aamir Khan as Mahavir, Sakshi Tanwar as his wife, Fatima Sana Shaikh as their daughter Geeta Phogat, and Sanya Malhotra as Babita Phogat. Suhani played the younger version of Babita whereas Zaira Wasim played the younger Geeta.

Suhani, however, took a break from acting to complete her studies and was not taking up any acting projects. Her demise left the entire team of Dangal shocked, and Nitesh Tiwari, Aamir Khan Productions and even the real-life sisters Geeta and Babita Phogat shared their condolences to the Bhatnagar family.

Rajkumar Santoshi opens up about cheque bouncing case; says, “Easily solvable. My lawyers are on it”

Raj Kumar Santoshi who is currently shooting his 18th directorial undertaking Lahore 1947 has apparently been given a two-year sentence in a cheque bouncing case. When I contacted him hours after the court verdict Santoshi said, “It is nothing, don’t worry about it. This is a farzi case. No dum in it at all. It’s a price one must pay for being in the limelight. Since you are a name, news is quickly made out of non-news.”

So was it easily solvable? Is Raj Santoshi not going to jail? “Easily solvable. My lawyers are on it. And I am not the least bothered. Let the law take its course. I trust the judiciary completely. Let’s talk about better things. With your blessings I am now shooting for my latest directorial Lahore1947. In fact Shabanaji is joining the shoot from tomorrow. I haven’t worked with her before, and I am really looking forward to it.”

Raj Santoshi’s lawyer Binesh Patel states that they will appeal against the magisterial court's judgement. "First of all, the court has stayed its judgement for 30 days granted Mr. Santoshi bail after we sought time to appeal against the judgement at a higher forum," Patel said, adding, "The prosecution didn't produce any documentary evidence to prove that Mr. Santoshi had taken money at all”

Deepika Padukone likely to opt out of White Lotus Season 3 due to personal reasons

It is confirmed. Deepika Padukone is part of the third season of the globally feted series The White Lotus which was initially released by HBO as a 6-part limited series. It premiered on July 11, 2021, to critical acclaim and high ratings. The show's success led to HBO renewing it as an anthology series. A second season was successful premiered on October 30, 2022. In November 2022, the series was renewed for a third season and is set to premiere in 2025.

The good news is that Deepika Padukone is part of the third season of this posh series. She is expected to join the stellar cast which includes Jennifer Coolidge, Natasha Rothwell and Alexandra Daddario.

The first season was shot in Maui; the second season was shot in Sicily. The third season of The White Lotus is to be shot in Thailand. But will Deepika join the cast and crew in Thailand later this year? A close friend of the Fighter actress informs me that she is likely to opt out of The White Lotus Season 3 for personal reasons.

In a recent Instagram story, Vicky Kaushal shared a glimpse of his workout. Despite sporting an arm cast, the actor can be seen engaging in seated crunches at the gym. Accompanying the video, Vicky Kaushal shared an inspiring caption, “When we can't run, we walk...we don't stop.” In the following Instagram Story, Vicky can be seen standing inside a -110 degC chamber. Alongside the clip, he wrote, “Recovery mode on.”

Reportedly, Vicky sustained the arm injury while filming a challenging stunt sequence for Chhava. Vicky portrays the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj alongside Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale in the film. Chhava has temporarily halted shooting to accommodate Vicky's recovery process.

The actor is also set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly anticipated project, Love and War, alongside Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.

Despite the celebrations being a private affair, many popular personalities from the Bollywood and South industry are expected to joining the couple on their special day. As for the pre-wedding festivities, a few functions are expected to be held in Goa which kicks off from February 19. However, it is being said that some of these ceremonies have already started in Mumbai from February 15 itself.

For the unversed, Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani announced their relationship on social media in 2021 and since then, they have made no qualms about making public appearances together or talking about their relationship. While Rakul has a thriving career in Bollywood and South with interesting projects in the pipeline, Jackky Bhagnani has taken a shift from acting to production under the banner owned by his father Vashu Bhagnani, which is Pooja Entertainment.

Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff to unveil Bade Miyan Chote Miyan title track on February 19, 2024

Miyan Chote Miyan, Manushi Chillar and Alaya F, recently wrapped the extensive Jordan schedule of the film. The actors filmed four songs in Jordan, one of which has Sonakshi Sinha’s special appearance. Now, the makers are set to drop the first song on February 19, 2024.

Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR to lock horns during action sequences in April 2024 in Mumbai for War 2: Report

While Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff played sleek spies in the YRF action entertainer War, fans are excited to see the franchise return with the superstar headlining the cast. However, RRR fame Jr NTR and Kiara Advani have joined the cast, who will be essaying key roles in War 2. Now, the latest update on that front is that the film is going on floors in Mumbai in April 2024.

Ayan Mukerji conducted two schedules last year in Spain and Abu Dhabi respectively. Now, he is set to bring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR for an extensive schedule which will be action-packed. According to Mid-day, a source said, “Ayan and Aditya are pulling out all stops to make sure that the face-off is a spectacular sequence. The Telugu actor will join the shoot in April-end, after he completes Devara: Part 1. The producer-director duo have planned a nine-day schedule, during which the two actors will shoot the portion that will include hand-to-hand combat and martial arts. While this sequence will begin on a set in Mumbai, a part of it will be shot in an international locale.”

Before he locks horns with Jr. NTR, Hrithik Roshan will shoot his solo portions throughout April 2024. The source further said, “Hrithik’s entry scene will be canned at the start of the schedule. The makers have planned an equally massive action entry sequence for Jr NTR as well. Knowing that action will be the USP of War 2, Ayan and Adi have roped in 11 international stunt coordinators, including Steve Brown, Spiro Razatos, Nikita Rozenko and Miguel Juzgado, who worked on Rambo: Last Blood [2019].”
